The E-Series program was conceived by Dipl Ing Heinrich Ernst Kniekamp, Chief Engineer of Waffenpruefamt 6 in May of 1942. In April of 1943, Heereswaffenamt (Army Weapons Office) accepted his program and ordered many different manufacturers to start the planning and development of the Entwicklung (project/development) / Einheitsfahrgestell (general purpose chassis) Series. It was designed in order to replace armored vehicles and tanks that were used by the German Army from 1945 onwards. All six basic designs of E-Series would have standardized parts making their production, maintenance and service easier and cheaper

E-5
Designed by Bussing, Daimler, Steyr and Weserhutte the E-5 was to replace the Pzkfw II in the light tank & reconnaissance role. Among the planed variants of the E-5 was a flamethrower, light tank destroyer armed with a 80mm PAW 600 & even a remote control light tank.

E -10 was the representative of the tanks of the new concept, whose construction was to standard production. It was to be a light turret-less tank destroyer. Designed by company Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz. KHD generally never dealt with the development of armaments so the E-10 was there first AFV. Although the designation E -10 implied the weight of machine to be 10 tons, in the end it was 16 tons.

The E-25 was meant to replace the ageing Pzkfw III, Pzkfw IV & there conversions (StugIII, Jagd IV), But it would still use the same 75mm Pak 42 L/70, from the Jagd IV & Panther which was a proven weapon & could take out any allied tank at that time. Later it was planed to add the 75mm KwK 44 l/70, which was being developed for the Panther II. Also in developed was a new auto-loading system capable of 40 shots per minute. With this & the new KwK 44 the E-25 would have raged terror for the Allies.

E-50

The E-50 was to replace the Panther & Tiger tanks, it was planed to use the new Schmalturm which was being made for the Panther Ausf F & Panther II which could house a 75 or 88mm cannon. There were also plans to add the auto-loading system to the E-50 too but nothing came of this as the new turret was to small to install the system.

Note: The E-50 is some times referred to as the Panther II, which is untrue as the Panther II was a completely different project. But it wouldn't be surprising if the Panther II project was cancelled & the name given to the E-50 as a nick name by the troops on the front.

Not much is known about the E-75 but it was planed to replace the Tiger II in the heavy tank role. Identical to the E-50's basic design, the E-75 was an E-50 with more armour & a bigger calibre gun it was even planed to build them in the same factories side by side. The best way to tell the E-50 & E-75 apart is that the E-50 has 6 wheels, while the E-75 has 8.

E-100

Super heavy tank designed as an alternative to the Maus, it used a modified Maus turret with the 150mm KwK 44 with plans to upgrade it to the 170mm KwK 44 later. Development of the E-100 started in June 1943 & continued steadily until 1944 when Hitler stopped all development of super heavy tanks. But even though, three engineers carried on the work at a low priority & by the end of the war they managed to nearly finish the first prototype which only needed a turret. The only prototype was sent to England after the allies captured it & scrapped post-war.

Weight: 140t
