I'll be releasing a "test" version in the not to distant future. It's not thing finished version, but I can get the old Laser general replaced and the new balance changes out to the public.

Any changes for black lotus?

@olli : try learning Dutch. It's a language that even makes less sense. I'm from Belgium (so we speak Dutch here) and I'm sure I manage the English spelling way better than the Dutch. The grammar is about the same difficulty.

@Pendaelose : I see your point there with the 'one word names'. I agree with you on that and there are far worse names than research general there might be better ones as well. Like your own suggestion: Science general.

Anyway great job on the mod!

If I think of more I'll post them. Sorry I've been posting and browsing under "anonymous" and "guest" after you have said you want a community effort, I just recently remembered which email I had my account attached to. Anyhow, been playing the mod quite a bit lately and looking forward to playing with the new stuff ASAP. Is there any generals you'd like the community to focus on in particular, or maybe a specific gen you'd like us to command/fight to see certain balance issues you're looking at? Of course, looking at all the new changelog info it might be obsolete without another beta release. >_<

Perhaps, just to stick with the Theme, we could shorten the X-Tech, NexTech or FutureTech to Tech-General... course the Fascinating thing about Laser-Gen were his Next Generation Weapons, that was the ONLY Reason, i played USA from time to time (Usually i like it Swift and Dirty... GLA Style, or just the Swarming Overhelm of Forces from china.... Didnt liked the Conzept of the USA ever.... except Laser^^)...
but PLS NO Research gen...

LASER its a SHORT but GENIUS word too describe him...
but RESEARCH... too long... boring... not 1 point of excitement... i mean, he has the BEST Tech, Techchoises AND can get some Tier1 in Tier0, so he is basicly TECH-Based general... i mean, the I like the Idea of renaming him, but RESEARCH... sounds like a Labor were some Scientist sitting on a Probe too find something New...

THIS Gen is a BOMB...
no Stupid booring Labors... no Scientists, no Probes... a SHORT, Stunning name....

Tech gen

Any other Good ideas? dont know... something with his Future Arms... Future Gen?... cut that... sounds like he has a Timemachine (Note, we need a TimeMachine for Remix... xD xD xD)
mhh... we need something COOL, short but something that tells, he has MOST Techchoices, Can Teleport, is FREAKIN Awesome, Can Teleport... has a superweapon that can Teleport... his Units can Hover... and Teleport (did i Meantioned that i LOVE the Idea of a TELEPORT-Ambush?), Satellite Based Artillerie, Ion... Gravitiy... damn... need to play the TECH-gen (Serius... BEST NAME Ever... have too agree with Jester^^)

anyway wanted too thank you for all the work youre doing for us Pend, YOURE AWESOME (Just like the Tach-Gen... i love this name, pls make it REAL^^)

Great job so far! Can't wait to play the next version. I just see the video of the Research General in moddb and its insane. Great job guys, keep it up. ^_^

I find it ironic that in his own trailer, the tech general is constantly being killed (except for the very first and very last fight). Showed off some cool tech though.

Yeah that was the point, to show off the tech.

I mean for example, the microwave choppers are very cheap, and you can see how quickly they burned through loads of infantry (with just three of them) before the infantry destroyed them.

Laser General is a bit fragile early game, but once he starts teching up and ranking up, he is a behemoth. An absolute fucking titan of a General.

The teleporting tanks...yeah they got destroyed because they were sent to a place with heavy units... but think of the possibilities?

You could send 20 in at once, but they all teleport to the same spot, so can all die together, so it's best to micromange them or send them in groups.

Imagine if you had 3 tanks assigned to each number button (1-9 and 0). Thats 30 tanks that can teleport instantly and any where on the map to do your bidding. Tanks with above average performance. Scary.

Yeah teleporting awesome thing, though I can't understand why there some blue light attached to tanks, as if they not teleporting but fly very fast ^_^

the blue light is just for visual tracking... I'll play around with it removed, I hadn't considered it before.

The Research General sounds like he'd be awesome. I tried the old release, and I'd have to say that he is my favorite general. I'm kind of worried that all the other generals would look bad in comparison and I have a feeling that balancing would be difficult with so many different units and weapons.

Also, all super sonic planes (Aurora, Phoenix, etc) are balanced to match a mini-Super, and one of the china generals gets the Satellite hack 3, but I can't remember who.

There's WAY too many to list. If I tried to name every little change it would take several pages.

To sum it up though, Remix is not in any way Contra. We share models, and we have the same names on the extra generals, but the play styles, feels, tech trees, unit lists, building lists, powers, etc are all completely different.

Contra and Remix share similar goals of extending the time needed to research the tech tree, but we go about it very differently. Contra uses a 3 tier rank to control tech progression, Remix uses a 4 tier Escalation upgrade tech system.

Remix also has diverging tech trees for many generals. Many generals have a split that forces the player to specialize his forces by committing to a single tech tree. For some, like Robot general they are cut in half and is essentially two separate generals. Others like Infantry general or Chem make a mid game choice that will focus his late game units or change what Tier 2-4 units are available.

well, I could answer that, but I'm biased...

honestly, I really don't like the word "best". They are different. I prefer my own mod, but it depends on what you want.

Try both mods, Creator's work is good too.


Contra matches require you to level up for tech. If you're not fighting, your not teching up. In a 1v1 this gives turtles a huge advantage because all the battles are on your terms... but in a larger game a turtle is at a disadvantage because the aggressive players are getting all the rank.

Remix lets you spend the money how you want... if you want to turtle it's available... with over 70 different types of base defenses to choose from. Remix doesn't favor turtles too highly though. The late game is extraordinarily expensive and players who secure expansion bases and extra income will be in much stronger positions later on.
