One of my very few favourite mods for BFME-series (excluding my own off course) is the Edain Mod (even though it's in german). However... whenever I try this mod, it starts to lagg terribly after about 5-10 mins into game (skirmish). Does anyone have this problem too, and do you know why? The lagg is so severe that the game can't even be played :p

I know I could as the Edain team directly, but I'm curious to see if anyone else might have the same problem...

I know you probably already tried this but I'm gonna ask anyway did you try turning down your graphics? Cause Edain mod does add more HQ skins to almost every unit so that might be why. Though I never have any problems with it.

I'll try that, but I doubt that's it. SEE has a lot of high res skins too... well almost alll of them, and a LOT of units. We don't get lagg until like 30 mins/1 hour into game... this is around 5 mins. I'm suspecting heavy scripting and AI... Something happens after this exact amount of time and others should experience it too. Both my PC's act the same way...

You are not alone with that.
I installed the Edain-Mod about one year ago, but I believe the latest downloadable version is still the same as I had. And as it happened to you, my game also started stuttering heavily after around ten minutes. But in my case the problem only occured during the RTS-battles in War of the Ring mode, in skirmish I could play without incident. Despite the fact that the map was overwhelmed by the AI with buildings and troops, so after a certain time my engine had to struggle a little more.

The really "funny" thing is that in WotR mode the lag even happens with only very few units active in game, so I have no idea how to deal with that.

Which AI were you facing against? Isengard and Mordor spam units LIKE CRAZY. It could be something else, because my computer only has 1GB of RAM with Windows Vista, and I can sort of play. The lagg is not bad is what I mean :p.

What is your lagg like? Do things start moving really slowly, or is it like screen tearing, where when you move, its stops, and then moves really fast, and then stops, and etc?

By the way, have you seen the new updates for version 3.6 :p.

They have not touched War of the Ring Mode :p.

As well, the mod has very complex stuff that I have not seen in any other mod Nazgul. I doubt even Sul did anything like that for SEE. Could that be it?

In music, you would call my lag a "staccato". It appears as a frequency of long breaks and short progresses. :p

I know they haven't touched WotR mode, but nevertheless I tried to play it. :p And I was wondering because Nazgûl's lag in skirmish seems to be of the same kind as my lag in WotR.

I am refering to lagg as in 2-4 frames/sec... it takes ages to even walk 10 meters in game :(

I won't go into debate as to what mod has the most advanced AI... espescially not since Edain is one of my very few favourite mods, besides RC and RJ, but I seriously doubt it's way more advanced than Sûl's coding... :p

Do certain maps or factions cause lag? Or is it across the board?

All over as far as I've noticed... Quite odd and a shame for such a beautiful mod =/ I wonder what's wrong, since I assume it works for the team?

lol, Edain AI is pretty not that amazing ;). I am talking about the other crazy stuff, like their Sauron system ^^.

*Nazgul wanted it that way* ^^

Please don't use words like crappy :p I have great respect for this mod, even if it's mostly cause of all it's awesome models. I'm sure there is a reason for this dreadful lagg as there is NO way the team could work like this. I'd just like to find the solution...

EDIT: I see the topic has been moved. I planned on posting here, but it says "besides BFME" in the header to Green Dragon ;)

Very strange indeed. This never happens to me, nor to any of the other team members. I don't recall any of the German fans having that type of issue, either. I do know that in the current version, there are one or two maps that can cause this (Ithilien being one of them, if I remember correctly), but I couldn't imagine what could cause that sort of issue across the board. It would be interesting to know whether playing on lowest possible graphics makes it go away?

We're also going to release a new version tomorrow (with lots of Mordor stuff for people of taste like you and I :p ), I'd be curious to see whether this issue crops up in that one too or if it was specific to the old version.

Build me an army worthy of Mordor!

I think its the Way the mod is set up itself ..

don't get me wrong its a GREAT Mod ..

I just decided to open up its Five Big files to see how they do it and noticed Duplicate files

Eg : in __edain_999.Big there is an ini File

AND in __edain_data.Big the same bunch of files

As you know the Edain Mod is five BIG files .. you put them where the instructions say

__edain_maps.Big

__edain_texture.Big

__edain_w3d.Big

__edain_999.Big

__edain_data.Big

Tried the new beta today... 3.6... and no lag. Even though I tried another map, so it might be map related =)

@JUS:
The __edain_999 is merely the "update-data" so people with the previous version don't have to download everything again. Smaller data = faster download. ;)
