Lately I've felt shelob shouldn't be a hero, it doesn't make sense- she's an intelligent creature and dangerous. But I don't feel she should be a mainstay hero, she realy fits the build as a Summonable creature and opportunist.

Much like the watcher or the Balrog she had no real allegiance to any faction or group- she is inherently evil but not bent to the will of sauron. She would make a good replacement for the when on the goblin spell book, she could unburrow from the ground when summoned and when the timer expires she could burrow back into the ground.

Thoughts?

I agree. You make some very good points.

However, I would like to have enough time to make use of all the awesome powers she will have by the time SEE is finished... If she is a summon, I'd like for her to last a while...
Ignited into the world in a flash of lightning, it gleams faintly in the heart of its mother, wood. It begins as an ember, a mere wisp of heat and colour. Its chance of survival at this critical moment is minute, yet it fights on, against the unforgiving cold, against the depths of night and against its mortal enemy: rain.

Great minds.... :)
I agree with you completely NJM... this is 100% in line with SEE caracteristics, and since we now have a new powerful main hero in the Cave Troll of Moria, we really don't "need" to make room for her as a recruitable hero. She's much better fitted (with the lore) as a spell book summon for this faction. With a long lasting timer, you'd still make good use of her and her powers, like the new unique Hero Webbing power and the spawning of Spiderlings! :p

I hope you note also to have a much longer recharge timer if she'll last longer than usual summons :p
so it doesn't end up with "oh, look at that.. two Shelobs!"

Sweet.... Im glad this change is coming about :)

All the Summonable creatures have long timers currently, with even longer recharge times. The Balrog for instance can pretty much cross most maps and attack a fortress before the timer runs out. Theres still a pretty good amount of time before he can be resummoned. Id imagine Shelob will be similarly coded. :p

Sounds good

well, I wouldn't like to have it very long for Balrog and AotD, but otherwise it sounds good.. Makes more sense when they die, and don't retreat before getting to do much

I think Shelob should be summonable for mordor and the goblins (once again, isengard gets kicked to the curb in terms of summons )
I think she should cost 17 PP like the ents and be a perquisite to the balrog

Interesting thoughts.

Side note, in testing the ability to traverse mountain terrain needs to go. She can travel straight up 90 degree cliffs and through objects on maps like e reborn and blue mountains. She can also travel in all water types.

Well, real spiders can walk upside down on glass, and can walk (yes walk) on water.
I also had a tarantula named shelob

trust me, on some maps there are objects placed against cliffs to make locations. not all of the objects are impassable and rely on the impassable nature of the terrain they are up against to prevent units from passing through them. the spiders just pass right through the objects and scurry up the cliff/terrain wall. it looks like ass, and shelob going under water in the oceans is equally stupid looking.

Oh I see but I think it would be cool if she could walk over short spans of water, without needing a ford

I do agree with NJM. However, I really like Shelob as a recuitable hero.

Shelob will be summon only, due to her immense powers.
