Since its about two months left of the election and both parties have more or less chosen their candidates, I figured it was time to make a thread about the election so far and the discussion around it.
I have to admit, the DNC owns the RNC. Bubba's speech is for me the prime example of sanity in politics compared to the irrational actions of the GOP.
Also, Julian Castro of Texas seems to be a future candidate for many things. I think this guy might get far.
I'm afraid even though it seems the democrats have the sane and thought out ideas, the republicans have the cash of billionaires to help them bring a suicidal policy to fruition. Then again I might be wrong.

It's a parade of bullshit we shuffle around every four years to give people the illusion of having some amount of control. I wish it would change but no one's willing to fight for any real change for fear of "losing their constiuency" or something bogus like that. I'd like to see a President in the US that wasn't a fucking Repulican or a Democrat. Fuck this two party system shit. I think I'm getting off topic here.

Thought this was a pretty good explanation for the problem with the two party system. It also explains why many don't like neither party because they just vote for the guy the hate the least. Problem with such a system is that it will most likely lead to a civil war once both sides come too far apart. And the spoiler effect is what ruins your day beowulf.
Ash, if they managed to vote Barack Hussein Obama into the white-house with Osama as the enemy #1, I'm sure they can handle a guy with the same last name as Fidel and the gang. Though I suspect that the Repubs might win by default because of leadership fatigue and/or money injections into the election by then, if they don't do so now.
Anyway, looking forward to getting up in the morning and adding the Obama speech here, I hope it is as good as Bill's and the other guys speeches.

It's good to see the Europeans are enjoying the election more than anyone else I know. No good pick this year.... Either the typical 21st century politician with horrible Mormon beliefs or the black Democrat. Both terrible choices... and I mention nothing else about them since more than 50% of Americans will be voting strictly on these factors. I have a feeling the Negro'crat will get his place back since people are still ignorant idiots and think the Change posters hold magic properties.

His job before he got elected was holding speeches, so I can understand he lost some of that when he has a super-power to run on top of things.
Anyway, Joe Biden's and Obama's speeches:
Not as powerful as Bill's speech, but it still hits the most important points. I feel that the democrats at least have an opinion on how to solve the problems vs the Republicans that just want to give tax-cuts and hope for the best.

If you just add the theory that most of these repub celebs have a lot of cash on hand that they've been told the socialists would take it from them if they win, you sort of get the answer to why they are so afraid in these commercials. Beyond that they don't give a rational reason why you should vote their way. "vote for the rich guy, or we will lose our money and our swimming pool and be very sad. And so would you, since you can't clean our pool no more."

It sort of gives you that apocalypse cult wibe. A lot of air and scary words, but nothing concrete. I'd fully expect the next video in that series to ask the viewers to kill themselves to save America or something

It seems that they've been given a quick list of do's and dont's. One of the primary points were "No talking about Politics or religion, ever", which will be interesting with them being there during the election.
But when you get a public corporation telling you. "In AMERICA, you don't talk politics or religion", it sounds like "in Saudia-Arabia, you keep your hair covered and don't drive a car". Gives you that feeling that you are just one sentence away from a dogmatic rebuttal and loss of business-deals worth millions.

Thought the news about Romney saying what he really thinks about people might be a game-changer this election
Mitt Romney's campaign came close to hitting the self-destruct button when he stood by a secret video recording suggesting that 47% of Americans are government-dependent "victims" who do not pay taxes. In a hastily-convened press conference, the Republican presidential candidate confirmed the authenticity of the video and opted against disavowing the views expressed in it. He said only that the case was not "elegantly stated" and that he had "spoken off the cuff".

Apart from offending a large part of the population, the comment is also inaccurate. Many of those he includes in the 47% do pay tax. Many of those also receive government money because they are elderly and have been paying into the system all their lives.

The rich want windows to open on planes so they can get out in case of fire.
The customer is always right, so I'm sure that boeing and whatnot will now add windows that can be opened in the first-class part of the planes. Well not really, but they'll add a handle so it looks like it can be opened
