Just did a quick sketch. My room is cold tonight so my fingers aren't up for the job, but I wanted to do a quick side-sketch of proportions. sketches_RR.jpg

Yeah was thinking about standard kart designs, might be cool to make them more unique though (this could even be a feature in the game) like sticking on steam engines, nuclear propulsion systems, spiked tyres, battering rams etc to give each kart more personality. ATM it's a decent base but seems like the generic Mario Kart/Crash Team Racing vehicle.

It is around 5 fahrenheit right now, -15c, and someone turned off the heat in my office so it took a few hours to get the temp back.

I like the design, Theoden with an AR. Once the core is started, creating all the additionals is just fun stuff.

Yeah. Since we'll start with a prototype, a generic kart model is what we need for now. Then we can think about if we're going to allow modular stuff - like you build your kart - or if each character will get different karts, based on their design.

@Pas: We also need a generic character guy. Just to start off. Could you try to sketch something? It could be our "member" character.

kudos to Pasidon for this awesome avvy and siggy!

I can't estimate how much more work it would be, but different cart designs add to the fun:

Heck, even SuperTuxKart (which is about as 'programmer art' as it can get) has it:

It depends on how much we want to invest that point in the game.  This could be amazing... and at the point that is realized, we'll invest in more carts?  Maybe.

And friggin' Barty, back from the grave.  Necromancy at work.

****... Sure?  Dukie did a pretty decent one, but I'll just make a standard Revora Racer.  The pretty poster boy of the events.

I'd start with something generic there, F1/typical racing styled terrain to begin with, then we might go crazy on the specific art and background-stuff after we got the basic scene up and running. I'm thinking silly-sci-fi with large planets seen through the atmosphere, death-stars whatnot.

But I think thats more for a specific thread on design vision.

Right now I've made a Dropbox folder that I want to use for now to gather all the stuff we have available. PM me your dropbox email accounts and I'll add you, then add the relevant stuff to the relevant folder. I got a 50gb folder right now, but I think we should avoid filling those folders up too much. A 3d model and the raw texture for it should be okay, but not the psd's and sculpt-files for 3d or stuff like that.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we could make it Super Mario Galaxy style and have little rounded planets, with the tracks wrapped around them?  I think that would be interesting.

Oh yes, and have weapons that cause an opposing player's 'gravity' to malfunction, causing them to drift off into space.

Ef' yea.  I wonder if we can somehow combine the kart racing with some sort of space-ship mechanics.  OR... be able to design your own cart.  Like in Banjo & Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.  It would have to be some-what physics based then... but that would be really awesome.

You could still wildly mix different vehicle types and abilities. E.g. one is a kart, one is a futuristic spaceship, one is a pirate ship with sails and cannons. I really don't think it should be realistic, just hilariously funny.

Also this probably belongs in the Game Design topic, not Organization.
