Hello all,

in reply to the idea of having new 1vs1 maps for online/tournament play, I hope we can share our ideas here. If this is the wrong place, please move it.

I mentioned to draw some sketches. However, I searched my harddrive and found some custom made maps. I scanned through all of them and found 7 which I linked below. These 7 might have some potential to become promoted. I hope for other contributions as well.

Can maps be modified after they were made?

This file contains:

Andrast. Some space around here to be filled with armies.

Carnen. Modification idea: Creeps@outposts turn into wargs.

Carrock. Amazing green color. Modification idea: Castles replacign camps.

Mountains of Mirkwood. Modification idea: Get 1 or 2 settlements closer to the castles, add like 2 warg liars, and reduce the number of big trees for visibility.

River Poros. Modification idea: more creeps and smaller buildings.

Swanfleet. Modification idea:: smaller hills and ruins

Weathertop. Castles may be too close together/not in middle spots.

Installation: I think it is enough to unzip the folders into Roaming/My Battle for Middle Earth Files/Maps, but that may be corrected.

@Fudge: I found some maps you made, they looked pretty amazing! More for campaigns and fun games, but great scenery :)

Most makers of these maps are on this forum, too, so we might be lucky. I really love Mountains of Mirkwood, but I don't like the placement of the castles. Castles in 1vs1 should point towards the enemies' castle, while on this map the castles point to a site.

These maps are found in The Elven Alliance and The Dwarf Holds mods (I don't think you are allowed to distribute them like this?). Also, I do believe these maps will be in Thor's 1.06 or 1.07.

These are the official downloads of the maps I think we will see in the next versions of T3A:Online

Fudge's maps (I would really love to play these maps in T3A:Online.)

Haldir's maps (I have already enjoyed these maps in TDH and TEA.)

If distributing them in this way is not allowed please pm me and i will remove the link/exclude those maps the mapper doesnt want to be found here.

(I certainly didnt get them from mods, but I have no clue from where).

What do you think, would it possible to have some good 1vs1 games on them (with or without modifications)? Or maybe you have even better ones :).

By the way, i never noticed this huge and great maps all over bfme1. They look so great and tell from all the imaginations linked to middleearth. I love the scenery so much. Definitly have to try out all the mods here as soon as I have more time :)

(I will still try to sketch something in my free time next days)

Most of Haldir's TDH maps have Vanilla versions I believe, Fudge has some vanilla maps as well I'm pretty sure.

I am considering possibly converting and releasing some of the LWR maps.

LWR has a few 1v1 and 2v2 maps just saying.

All of the maps I made for TDH can be used in vanilla BFME but I made them specifically for TDH and would prefer it if they would stay there, I'm fine with my skirmish mappack being used. Although as you said ict all of my current maps are made with visual appearance as the main priority and balance as a secondary.

Those maps look mostly amazing. However, it's of highest importance to normalize the camera zoom-out for all maps. On some you have extreme close ups and others are very distanced so you can see your whole castle.

Okay, this goes to all wonderful mappers out here =)

This sketch I made, hope you can read/understand the idea.

It should be a little bigger than fords, having the middle oupost a little bit above ground level, so you can reach it by two broad paths, coming from each castle, only. However, there should be plenty of room between settlements and warg liars/troll cages, with trees in between. Big fords (not too many stones) allow easy movements, rivers shouldnt look too big, more small streams. Goblins at outpost, wargs and trolls at 4/8 settlements (farms/mills). Important that castles can be entered from any side.

Details/map color/tree placement up to you

(i imagined it to be in the green hills of tom bombadil, well only one hill on there)

Volunteers? :)

Pretty good sketch, however if I want to go for mapping a 1vs1 map, I rather want to design it the way I like it (I have an idea in mind already, I just need more time to realize it). I really would like a mapping contest (like over the time of 1 or 2 months, each member can contribute one self-made map).

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the Troll creep on the outpost to gate it a bit more and have Goblins guarding the top and bottom econs?

Maybe. The idea was: Two Trolls for balance. If one player goes for the output, he should not get both the (one) troll and outpost easily with the same strike. But I am not sure if that is how it works out :)

This is by far only a sketch open for modifications, try and error ;)
