News wrap up.

Beta 0.155 is slated for the 17th of January which is only 3 days away.

News article with details of Beta 0.155 including some information on Dunland 2.0 Part 1 which will start to introduce a few changes to Dunland.

Check it out here.

The launcher has gotten a major overhaul since Beta 0.15 with a lot of being streamlined and automated.

You will no longer have to set your game irectory manually the launcher will handle that even for custom directories.

The launcher will also automatically check that, first the game is installed and then if you have patched the game to 1.03, if you haven't patched it will automatically run the game's patch checker it will also check if you have T3A online installed and adjust accordingly.

I've added the Game mode code to the main menu and removed the Starting menu so everything is handled from the one menu.

Added a new game mode help option to the launcher "gmhelp".

Adding 3 new Game Modes:

  1. noheroes which removes all buildable heroes.
  2. gollumwars which removes all buildable heroes and gives each faction 5 Gollums to build
  3. gollzilla which replaces the final spell for each faction with the massive Gollzilla.

I've created a Google doc for users to post bugs found here.

If enough bugs are reported by the 17th I'll reveal some juicy information on future plans for Return of Shadow.

I'm curious; how does setting game modes from the launcher work? I haven't seen anything like it anywhere else.

Careful. This link is DANGEROUS. Do NOT click it. This one, however, is fine.

I had the meaning of life in my signature, but it exceeded the character limit.

That honestly looks horrible.

What does?

It works through power of my launcher small code files overwrite the main code so that I can change things for a mod without needing a whole new mod.

I think it's a bit inappropiate to post random map progress in the news feed.

And the first map looks like Green Dead Marshes.

The second starts to look good.

Mega Gollum looks horrible (in the same way the Mouth of Sauron's mouth looks horrible).

Val it's not your call to make.

It's a lot more than just map progress shots it's packed full of news.

The next patch's release date, a link to more news on said patch, a screenshot of a new map for that patch, 2 progress shots of a new map, important information on the launcher, details for the new bug report method I've implemented and a tease for big news, details on 3 new game modes that'll be added including Gollzilla.

All of that in one post.

The first one looks like a green Dead Marshes because it's also a Marshland map.

The launcher/installation update sounds very good indeed.

"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

I was not saying about the important news , I was saying just about the screens.

The screens are there to dress up the important news.

I think progress shots of maps can be quite interesting, seeing how a map can develop over a short time.
