Hi,

I've recently started working on a mod for BFME2 ROTWK and realised that my ambitions for the game where going to take a long time to make a reality. So, I was wondering if anyone wanted to join in on the building of the mod, if you already would like to make your own mod you might find it easier to do it as part of a team. I suppose I'm mostly looking for people who are good graphics and texture/model editing but coders would also be very helpful. This is simply an invite and not a job because I can't pay you for this so it's just for anybody who wants to mod for fun or wants to make a mod but doesn't think they can handle it alone.

Thanks,

Please tell me below if you're interested! :thumbsupcool:

I ain't crushing your idea or anything, but you aren't gonna get anywhere without a plan. Every modder needs a detailed plan of what they wanna do, and how they plan to go about it. Also:

I suppose I'm mostly looking for people who are good graphics and texture/model editing but coders would also be very helpful.

Yeeaaah... the most of us who can do modelling and texturing for this are already involved in our own projects, but that shouldn't deter you. I started out asking if I could have people for my own team, some six years ago, and since then I've figured it's far more useful to learn how to build assets yourself. The tutorials on http://the3rdage.net/ are your friends in this respect, as you don't need to wait for other people to do stuff, instead do it yourself.

But your main problem here is that nobody is willing to join your team if you don't show commitment yourself, at the very least by providing some aim or goal, but then also providing screenshots or other such evidence that you can do work for the team. I'm not saying you'll get anyone by following these to the letter, but I can safely say that if you ignore it you won't get anyone to help.

I also advise you to go solo first for a while, see what you can come up with, and then you'll have a better idea of what it takes to mod.

But whatever happens, I bid thee good luck, and fruitful modding for the future!

what he said. haha. The most difficult part is learning to create your own artwork or trying to find someone to help you out both options are typically quite hard these days in my opinion.

Okay, thanks

I think I might try anyway because I've got someone who can do a bit of the new texture design now and I can do most of the retexturing my self except when it comes to modelling as this wouldn't be my strong point but most likely is someone else's. Also, as a goal:

I would like to have a mod that doesn't bring too many new wacky concepts in to the game but more or less expands on what's already there with the addition of perhaps one new faction. The faction of which will probably be either Rhun/Harad or a divided Elves faction (Mirkwood/Lorien/Imladris/Lindon).

The way I would like this to work is that at the end of each month there would be a 'grouping' when all the specified work to be carried out by each modder is emailed or Google Drive'd to me where it would be assembled and built into the asset in the main mod folder which will be securely held on my computer and my OneDrive. If the other modders wanted a copy of the in-progress-mod then they too could collect the files at the end of each month. During the grouping there would be a chance to exchange thoughts and ideas about concepts for the mod, through some messaging service probably (depending on what suites).

Only when I have got a fully effective team put together can I really decide on final ideas for the mod and have those then put together.

Good idea. Probably better than anyone else's organization (except maybe Mathijs'), but, uh, what if someone fails to provide that month?

Well then they'd have to send everything over as soon if its done and they probably wouldn't get as big of a workload as before.

Grimdo, this topic is not yours to advertise  your own mod. ;p

It might be prudent for you to start a separate topic for your mod's advertisement, Grimdo.

I was asking if someone wanted to create a mod team with me

Not if I could debug someone else's for them.

Honestly, if you ask for general help, you're not as likely to get any - I would go around and look for specific members, and their work, and then ask them specifically what you want and if they want to help.

You don't need plans to mod. Plans usually get in your way. Mod and the rest will come to you, because modding is fun!

Irene is telling me to plan, Valaquenta your saying not to?

If I did want to look for potential members however where would I go and what would I ask for?

Well, you've come to the right place, though technically you should post it here. The thing is though, very few people will be willing to work with you, unless you yourself have already done a fair amout of work. This way you'll show that you're a guy who can do your part, and people might be interested in joining up. Of course, you might get lucky and have someone join you this early, but in general you're better of starting the mod yourself. If you need models or textures, you could always have a look at our free stuff here.

And don't forget about this.

edit: Oh, regarding plans. You should make plans, that way you have something to aim for. On the other hand, don't be afraid to change your plans as you go. Modding is all about having fun, getting frustrated when things don't work out, and overcomming obstacles on the way. So relax and enjoy it. People might not join your mod ever, but if you manage to do everything yourself you're actually better off. Nothing worse than a mod that's nearly finished, when a teammate, who happens to be crucial, leaves. Ask Mathijs', I've left his mods a couple of times already.

I'm going to have to agree with Lauri. Part of the fun of modding for me is making plans :p

Can I just note to anyone reading this that this topic was originally started and answered on another section of the site and then moved by Mathijs.

I would like to post some screenshots of my work so far but I'm having some uploading troubles :blinky:
