Actually the colored fonts (thus more clear, easier to read/interpret data) were the primary reason to make the cards. And of course the ability to use them in other places like loading screens and poker sets.

And I just realized that the colors correspond to the colors of the weapons' bolts. I retract my statement. Oh, and not to sound like an ass, but how are we handling missiles? I asked it on the last page, but to reiterate, are they being changed at all and if so than what are the extent of the changes?

I've made a suggestion to use graphical file based info cards several months ago, but it was rejected by PR do to various reasons. Note that this particular card shows the old info system. I'm only showing it to you to spare you time thinking about similar solutions.

I like it very much and there is still like 6 cm of space (top edge of the screen) to put little something extra (history of service or design).

As for spreadsheet... tell you what - really prefer to read phone book. :D I don't care about how much damage does what and when. I just play and have fun without need to do arithmetic. That's the whole idea of a game. If that math data was so important I would be owned big time yesterday when Rebels tried to conquer Coruscant (op Shadow Hand) with hell knows how many various MCs (stopped counting after 40 confirmed kills), Bulwark and whatever else as escort. Without starbases, with loss of 1 Dreadnought 2, 1 VSD 3 and 1 Dominator 2 I defeated all of that scum using just one ship - Praetor 2 (all ships parked over Colony building for protection of only orbital facility) ... and HVG. I was vastly outnumbered and outgunned yet math was defeated after ~90 minutes of pounding.  <3 big battles, cannot help, but I wasn't so sure if I can stand up to Rebel armada when they arrived as I said 'holy moly I'm screwed!'.

I keep the charts for my own personal use, because I'm not totally fluent in xml, yet still want to make changes of my own and sometimes I want a quick reference guide so things don't get out of hand. They also mean that I don't have to rely on the old info cards, which could get cluttered, especially if the ship in question had a lot of weapon systems and if I changed the fighter compliments, which I often do. Anyway, PO, that post will suffice

What math, you use the infocard to make sure which units have heavy turbolasers or heavy turnoion cannon, then the rest of the ships function as escorts for those vessels as you pick everything apart from long range.

I like the new infocard setup, but I have a few small suggestions Add: top speed since this is being kept. Change: armaments. Specifically, I think that every weapon type, octopule turbolasers, octopule turboions, etc, get its own line. This should help keep the box neat.

Prehaps there could be several downloadable options for info card display, allowing peopple to pick and choose what they get.

Must really point out... OK with proposed info cards - how much damage which weapon does is meaningless... unless before each battle you do mental calculations of how much damage each broadside will deliver. If really math ruled this game so decisively and that dmg output was so important Rebels would swarmed me, swamped, trampled, then blow me away into oblivion without a trace. But they didn't and as such dmg math is not important for info cards. That's why megabalta cards are so nice. Compact, with all relevant data; with plenty of space to put few words about each ship to make it less dry and technical..

And by definition knowing thing or two about SW and playing PR regularly, you know which ships have have what. My Friend it's hardly possible to mistake Carrack for Preator 2 or X-Wing for MC-120  ;)

Before we jump to that, I have to ask, how much work does it take to make the infocards?
Where are the files, what programs do we have to use, what are the rules for making them with regards to format, are they tied to the ship's xmls in any way, and is there an ability to view a finished one without loading the game up?

Because if this is really going to be an issue, then I think we, the community just make some and see what the pr team says. This way, everyone stops complaining about it, and the extra work the pr team would have to put in is as little as possible.

I'll even draw up the guidelines for such a contest.

1. Submissions can be either totally original, or mere modifications to the current setups.

2. The cards have to provide at least some of the data, like the numbers and compositions of guns. Mandatory info would be the ship class and type.

3. The submission uses the Imperial 2-class Star Destroyer and her data. This way we can compare the 1.2, 1.3 version on page 1 of this thread, and custom versions (megabalta, since you used the Imperial 1, you can use this or if you have one for the isd2, than that one, should you want in on this. That said, since I regularly change my please don't lock the files, should you enter this contest and win. Oh, and you don't have to change your numbers if you dont wish to, since yours are already completed)

4. New icons are not mandatory. If you wish to include them, attach it to the submission and roll it up into a .zip.

5. The 'winner' of this contest has to do every infocard for every unit this applies to. They can ask other members of the community to help. But they also have to abide by whatever rules the pr team places on them, and cannot disclose any information on the new version unless the team authorizes such action. However, they get some reward from the team for winning the contest, doing all that work, and taking some of the load off the team's collective shoulders. This could, and probably would be earlier access to the final product then the rest of the community. They become in essence a Limited Partner of the team.

6. The submission itself has to be a file in whatever format the cards have to be in, a short description of your card and should you decide on a new icon, the icon, in a zip or rar, sent to a member of the team. And make sure that if you use someone else's work, credit them

"Infocards" are not that funky I'm afraid. They are basically text given in a txt/xml file on a single graphical panel background. The used data file is in the config.meg if I'm wrong correctly, which is brand new for the new version of PR (aka classified), as is the data for the ships. My idea was only a concept, and as I said it was rejected by PR due to graphical memory use, much photoshop work, hardships to update/add later new units, and translation concerns. As of now, I think the community can suggest text formats (in another thread), but in the end it's the team who makes the decision/work.

Aizen, weapon damage is actually a key factor.
However it's mostly just key to remember that regular weapons do roughly double what their light variant does, and heavies do roughly double the regular ones.

Past that it's a simple matter of division/multiplication, and roughly estimating which fleet has more guns to point.

Damn.
Where are the text files in 1.2? Because I unpacked that meg so I could tear into the ship xml files, and cannot seem to find the files. Even if such a competition is rejected, I want a crack at modifying the damn things

The text strings are in the Master Text File, which is a .dat file located in the Data/Text folder. You need a specific editor to open it, for example the one at Petrolution Mod-Tools.

Open the file thru the editor's interface, that's what I've gotta do to get mine to open.
