I don't need the auras tbh. Nobody will complain about giving the fact that they're not special status troops, just reinforcements.

I think they do!

First, they cost NO cap - so you can have them EXTRA!!

If they are a "regular" squad, similar to an other one, the player will be unable to discern!

 

PLUS, I think we MUST make them special - different to the standard race squads.

They ones we have now are just samples.

 

My idea is to create a SOLID base first (code-wise) and then modify/balance whatever needed.

... I could give the existing the ability, and then the ability to have the research as requirement  :p

 

Wouldn't that mean that ALL your squads would then have the aura once the research was granted, not just the bonus squads?

...By the way there is A DIFFERENT method with NO new entities, and no SCaR/researches:
I make a new entry in the event manager ext of each entity with the desired aura event.
Then, I have it enabled with the Squad Modifier extension, set on the BONUS squad.
Easy, and NOTHING involved.

Yes, use a copy of the existing hero aura ability which needs a research that is not player buildable. Give it to whoever so it only works when you activate it.

For example, for AdMech and HisRighteous we use the IG one, For TSons and Rage the Chaos ones, for IDH and UM the SMs ones, etc.

But do not expect this soon!!!

I HAVE TOT EVEN CREATED the bonus squads for half the races!

(YOU CAN play Survival with them, but you get no bonus squads - the same with Turrets).

Not all the existing FXes will be appropriate though - what about the Tyranids, for example?

OK, so I got a bit better, and started re-coding Survival. It seems:

 

1] It is easier than I thought, but will require MORE time.

2] Once done, it will be easy to add even ATTACKING player races!

 

Bottomline, all cool. But will take a bit longer. Perhaps 2 more weeks.

... Well, I said two weeks, while...

I almost finished it yesterday night !!!   :twisted: 

I am a real dork, I know  :p

 

Kidding aside, I am recovering from my recent illness (the flu), and I became a bit of an insomniac.

So last night there was nothing else to do,... thus I was coding for more than 8 hours str8!

...And...

It looks excellent!

 

I removed the Ranking System - it needs reworking and we can come to that at a later time. It is easy to add that later.

 

The size of the Survival code is reduced from 250 to 50 kb :grad:

But it's workings are faster, cleaner and more efficient - NOTHING else is removed.

 

 

The ATTACKING AI Race files are also MUCH smaller. And much more customisable.

To add a new race, you simply... Fill up the form again :p

THERE IS code involved (you ONLY have to copy it of course, and JUST replace the existing squads, with those you need), and I could remove that as well, and keep it as a simple "squad-inserting".  But I'd rather NOT, to increase flexibility.

 

2 Survival Winconditions are a bit grumpy with the "modular" system, but this only means that I will need a couple hours on each :laugh:

OK, the code is tested and it works:

- Spawns the waves, of course. I gave a +3 secs delay, to AVOID simultaneous spawns for many players. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE how two (30-lines each) functions... REPLACED the monster that was! ... Honestly, they are so complex I am sure... even I will be unable to updated them tomorrow!!!  :laugh:

- Spawns the harassing squads. Based on nymber of players, of course

- Spawns the decapping squads (based on number of critical locations of the map)

- Takes care the AI based on difficulty.

- Places the turrets, for many players.

- Updated the HQ detection function.

- Updated the idle squad behaviour

- Player support is of course up to 7 (+ the enemy AI), if the map supports it - NO changes will be required on 4p or above maps.

- Adding new defending players is now also modular and EASY.

 

There are some more things to do...

One of them is tricky dicky. :p

And the other is the update of 2 winconditions...

OK that last wincondition (Heroic Defense), was really nasty, as anticipated.

I have JUST finished the Chaos race... and there are 12 more to go...

 

See, each race has its own special implementation: Chaos has the Warp Gate, Tyranids have the Spores, Marines the THs with the spawning troops...

EACH is a code of its own.

And it must be re-written from scratch - just as I did with EVERYTHING else!

 

... Which means that I do not know when I will have all races ready...

If you want, I can upload Unification tomorrow, and you can see how things go, with Chaos Marines as enemy.

Otherwise, you can wait for me to finish all of them.

 

It ended up into re-writing the WHOLE SCaR folder :p

(but EVERYTHING is optimized and modular now - but need testing!)

I'm interested in testing it. I believe I'll have some time tomorrow night if I feel ok. I'll be sure to dl & test it if you decide to upload it.


Especially since I've had issues getting survival to work in the current build regardless of races. It just seemed like a regular match with computer Ally but easier than normal. Perhaps I am doing something wrong in the setup or I need to reinstall. I have 7 SS installations to manage mods + a few backup folders of whole installations including mods & also mods / files at various versions backed up in other folders as well. Maybe i need to get it cleaned up... though my working install is pretty clean I think.

I'm considering if it's necessary to unpack the archives to make modding easier. That & learn better the graphical system as using custom textures & icons for example sometimes seems to carry over.

I'll have to find an appropriate thread to post questions. Perhaps mdcertainty, Kekoulis or Norwegian_Loki's graphic threads. If anyone has a suggestion as to where to post regarding custom graphics (textures, icons, models, etc.) please let me know.

Otherwise I'll try 1 of the threads I listed as perhaps my questions will fit in the scope of 1 of them. If there's 1 in particular that's recommended please let me know.

Actually I'm mind blanking ATM but I believe there was a thread mentioning customization that doesn't cause desynchronization. That might be a good place to ask. If someone can point me in that direction I'd appreciate it. Looking in my history but haven't found it yet.

Thanks for the hard work to Gambit for his admirable work on Unification. Also my thanks to anyone that answers for any help regarding where to post my graphical questions.

But as for Unification; if you upload you have at least 1 tester volunteer. :)

Well, let me run some more tests and update what's what, and I will upload it!!!!

 

Remember that I have only finished Chaos Marines as Enemy Race.

But also note that each Enemy Race is now... ONLY ONE FILE!!! :twisted:

 

So, I will be giving you the profile of one more ENEMY race each time, and you will be able to test playing against that.

 

ETA 1-2 days.
