Yippkayee!

I can't contain my excitement. No. fucking. way. Asked for this for 15 tiresome years. Longer it took, longer than anything else. Legacy games updated & new title about to come in future.

You peeps wanna do some co-op to celebrate the news of the goddamn age? (full retail here, C2/C3, I don't have BTCOD or BEL CDs working for the moment yet)

Quick article round-up:

Kalypso Media, the publisher-developer behind Tropico, Dungeons, and Railway Empire, has bought all rights to Commandos. "We see it as our responsibility to revive and further develop these beloved games for fans around the world. Of course, this will include the development of a completely new game for all platforms, but also an extensive adaptation of the existing titles for contemporary technologies and platforms. We’re incredibly excited about the opportunities, and will begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future.”, says Kalypso Media own Simon Hellwig, founder and managing director.

That is great news!

I hope they'll approach Mimimi Productions (the developers of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun).

Furthermore, I hope they will develop mod tools for the community! I mean, what fans have made is awesome of course, but they have access to the actual source code then.

I'd vouch for them too. Out of none studios, appearing to do similar games, Mimimi looks like the only recent one staying afloat, and had a positive start.

Alot can go wrong, from bad marketing, to bad design logic, to anything. In spite, I am not calling Koch out yet. Mod SDK depends on the engine, a game-ready engine like most popular ones, won't compare to current modding possibilities of an 20-year old engine Pyro used from the beginning.

It's strange how the sub genre showed absolutley no sign of life for one and a half decades, then out of nowhere Shadow Tactics marches in, Partisans gets into development, and suddenly a studio sees good money in Commandos, I guess it's not a long shot to expect a Desperados 4 soon. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about the news, but a bit sceptical too. Also agree that Mimimi should be trusted with the development, I'm just curious what their Projekt Kartoffel might hide, because I guess that also something to this genre.

I hope the Pilot from Behind Enemy Lines makes a return, maybe not as a main charactor, but perhaps you could call him in once for each mission with a radio (so it's not overpowered) as an airstrike perhaps in a Hawker  Hurricane,Typhoon or Tempest, or a De Havilland Mosquito or another RAF plane that was used as a ground attacker. For example perhaps have a mission where you need to destroy the AA guns then you can call him in to destroy an objective such as blowing up a tank or a headquarters, or perhaps a mission similar to BEL mission 3 with a dam where you can call in a Avro Lancaster dam buster with a bouncing bomb to destroy it. A dam busters mission would be great I think.  If any of the devs of the game check this forum please consider something like this, I think would be a great idea.

Also I have a little question that's always bugged me a little, does anyone know what the Pilot in the English version of BEL says when you select him? it sounds something like "Glatchu officer" but I don't understand what he's meant to be saying. And not because i'm a non-native English speaker because i'm from England, the same went with the Sapper in BEL, I know he's meant to be saying "Affirmative sir" because of the later games, but in BEL it sounds like he's saying "Affirmajig sir" or some shit like that. I think the voice actors of them 2 lines mispronounced what they are meant to be saying.   :D

Is weird because they have Sudden Strike series, and having other WW2 is not best move. Also they could use Commandos HD project for remastered, i think they just want to improve games compatibility.

It could very well be that the sample rate is to blame. When they recorded those lines from the voice actor, they had to sample it on a specific frequency. During that sampling, there might be a loss of quality.

Newer SS editions are miles off the real ones, even though series bear no resemblance to each other. And contrary to that, Commandos had bigger attention span to gamers. I worry about how much next developer will research the first 3 parts (destination berlin was okay) to base upon the continuation..

I also hope the driver is going to be back, they could put some vehicles that not anyone with just a standard driving licence could drive such as tanks, tank destroyers, spg's, half tracks, armored cars etc, but perhaps still allow the other commandos to drive standard cars etc, heck even lorries could also be vehicles only the driver can use as you usually need an extra licence to drive them, and perhaps he could drive standard cars faster than the other commandos or some other extra perk he gets when driving over the other commandos.

Speculatively speaking, a continuation means either game telling the events happened before or after 2/3. Where Destination Berlin had returning characters, story expanded on the eastern front which isn't canonical to Men of Courage. I can only guess the next setting. Tiny/Spy/Sniper/Thief/Sapper prequel my best hope.

And that's assuming Sid received his renewal notice in time before his driver's license expired. Possibly it was sent to his home address while he was at Achnacarry castle.
Maybe the developers can do something with gun permits as well. ("I can't shoot Fritz with this!")

A tank should be driven by Sapper and Driver together for maximum efficiency. And requiering at least one of them to be inside. Giving it's main gun less range or lower firing rate with either of them missing. Or indeed a lower max speed.

lol, preliminary jokes. Have the famous "Sir, yes, sir" line for Green Beret and I am okay having only one character to play in the game :D
