Any hope for making Zero Hour retail work?

You are probably using a crack that forces version mismatch. If you use a different crack, it should work.

Try these:

As far as I can tell, due to Microsoft finally getting around to blocking SecuROM in modern Windows releases (hooray, sorta), you need to no-CD crack Zero Hour retail (not Origin!) to make it run these days.

Per this old thread: https://forums.revor...ferent-version/ GenTool/CNCOnline doesn't support cracked versions, and indeed in Online play with a friend we get that "different versions" symptom even though we have identical setups.

It does work in LAN play with GenTool to fix the speed issues, which I guess is skipping the check. Is there any way to disable that for Internet games? I am fully aware this isn't going to allow playing in ladders/stats/leaderboards/with the rest of the community, but that's not the problem I'm trying to solve, just getting trying to get a game with said one friend who is now several thousand miles away.

(Whoops, I had notifications turned off!)

Hm, thanks. That makes GenTool happier (I get a more complete GenTool menu, and it's now saying "cracked" instead of "incompatible"), but unfortunately the alleged online version mismatch remains. Actually visiting them again for today, and LAN play's still working fine. Odd.

Edit: There's a blur of GenTool's overlay checking files bottom-left, before determining it's a "modified" install. It doesn't care about extra stuff in the folder, does it? I've got the original exe zipped up under there. Does the list of files get logged somewhere?

It does not log unfortunately. But it certainly would help to log the modified files. You have some custom files in your game installation that cause the version mismatch. Most likely some loose INI files.

Hey, sorry for the necro, took a long to line up our free time to try again, but want to close out on this: good guess! There was an Data\INI modification I'd forgotten about from when I was going through singleplayer that made widescreen work better. Getting rid of that made it work!

Marking solved, thanks a ton!
