I bought it off Steam (It's just the stand alone game. I did not purchase as a bundle)

NOT SURE if this is what is needed ^^^, but I followed instructions.

*** "I can not disable port forwarding and DMZ in your router" … first off, I followed instructions and it keeps sending me to a Bing search and giving me results for lifewire and admin.com. Yes I am typing it in the address bar. So, I have no clue where to go from there because many links are different and don't follow the instructions. Second, I pay for private internet in a dorm building (Boingo), so I'm not sure if that is possible. The connection diagnostic link comes back as "Sorry, we couldn't find that. Either way, I cant produce this information in the instructions. Sorry.

So here is my issue. My room mate and I just bought two NEW GAMING COMPUTERS. My friend got the G3 and I got the G7. We both are using Steam on our own accounts. We are sharing a high speed internet connection. For 3 hours, I was troubleshooting why my computer. It kept saying I could not access Back End Servers, after I connected to the online server the night before. I come back the next day to play for the first time. It kept saying the same thing, "Can not access back end servers". So I did a total reset on my NEW G7 Gaming Laptop. I set up my room mates the exact same way and his has no issues. After I reinstalled everything, I tried again. I was able to get on the servers. I still have yet to play a single second of online at this point. I set up a lobby, still connected to the  same shared internet. The symbol in the lobby "network" column was yellow for me (on my screen) and another symbol for his that wasn't in the "Network-Key Description". I went to his computer and the same thing was reflected, but in reverse. His computer said he had a yellow connection. We readied up and tried to play. That's when the "Connections are in progress, or connection problem detected. Please click the Connections button where you can check every player's connection and retry." came up. I have gone into my firewall setting and tried to change them. They are already set up to allow C&C3 to play. I only have C&C3 installed on my laptop and the same for my room mate. I tried using the barracks standard free internet (I can stream YouTube and Hulu without buffering... as a speed reference.), but when I restarted the game and tried to get online with C&C Online, it said that I couldn't access the back end servers, again. So, I went back to the shared internet and I was able to get back on the servers fine.... but the connection issue in the lobby was still the same.

We also tried LAN connection. Why does'nt the LAN (CAT cable) work with this game? It's just a direct connection, isn't it? I was very disappointed when we couldnt use that. I went into Network and not a single name came up.

It might sound silly, but I am not a big computer guy. I just bought this laptop so i can play C&C with my friend. I don't know a lot about computers, so please tread lightly on terminology.

Thank you for anyone who can help or genuinely tries/tried to help.

Did you put the cable into the router and the computer (so you'd need two cables) or did you put the cable between the computers?

If it;s the second, you did it wrong and need a twisted pair cable for that.

If you dont know what that is, just go with option 1 and connect your computers into the same router and check again.

C&C Online is not needed for LAN.

We can't access the router because we are in a barracks. I did only plug it computer - computer. Could you tell me about this "twisted pair cable"? I tried Googling it, but it looks like a normal cable. Can I buy it at a store?

A twisted pair cable is just normal patch cable but with the inner cables twisted. You can buy them in stores and use them.

If you are connected, you need to invite your friend to your local domain (workgroup) so you can seeeach other.
