Can you play BFME 1 unpatched?

Is it possible to play BFME 1 in a vanilla state?
While I understand that the patches make for a more balanced game and a better PvP experience, I just want to mess around vs the AI like back in the day.
When I try to unpatch with the patch switcher, the game won't launch. It says that I need to insert the correct disc. If I enter my physical disc it goes to a crash screen.
Is there any way to make this work?

Of course. Just install BFME1, don't patch it, but make sure you create the Options.ini file as mentioned in the install guide. It shouldn't crash on startup then.

Hi, thanks for replying. I tried this but I'm not sure it worked. From what I remember Boromir didn't have the ability to knock enemies to the ground in the original version. Maybe BFME-Online edition has some updates that come with it, regardless of patch?

I noticed that the Online-edition comes with CD-images for older patches. I tried mounting these, but the game still asks for the correct disc. Mounting as data-discs resulted in Windows not being able to read the discs at all. Mounting as CD-DVD-rom made it so Windows could read the discs, but it did not let me bypass the CD-check.

Doesn't the Online Edition just come pre-patched? I don't recommend getting that at any rate as it's a second rate repack.
