I've read a 1700 page book, and I still only have a very limited understanding. Find tutorials on the web, and just think about what you need to do. Once you know what you need, find a way to do it, and you're done.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Hallo thar, glad to be a member of this establishment. I've gone thru all 400 pages of a C++ book I have, but I still can't figure out how to link 3D models, a GUI, game code, animations, and whatever else goes into a game together using C++. A little help if possible?

Your gonna need to read a little bit more than 400 pages to accomplish something like that, arent you?

My book is called tips and tricks of the 3D game programming gurus. It's written by Andre La'mothe. Very handy book. Anyway, I recommend using the DirectX API, as it is much faster than any Windows API, and built almost solely for games. Microsoft has quite a bit of documentation on the API, and there are many sites dedicated to game programming with DX. Check out GameDev.net for many good tutorials. Start with small 3D demos, learning how to set everything up and control the 3D world, then move on to controls and things, and slowly integrate it all into a finished project. Have fun, and expect to work for a few years at it. Another idea, to skip quite a bit of the 3D stuff is use an open source engine like OGRE. (Google it).
