After we complete our security sweep of all hosted sites on Icetex, I will be taking down the server for a day for a complete OS reload. The reason for this is mounting concern about the security of the server. This is a warning that you should ensure that you have a complete backup of the files in your FTP space. I and others will be doing a complete backup, but it is still important for you to make sure that you also have a copy of the complete site.

Dates:
Possible:
January 7th or later
Probable:
January 15th

What to back up:
Your site and all files related to it.
Databases if you have any

Will continue to edit as timelines firm up or further questions arise.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

I'll be gone for a few days so I can't take care of FI or ReGen until the 4th.

January 7th or later. It was in the e-mail, I will edit the post shortly. The actual format will probably be around January 15th or so.

I don't know if getright works with cpanel. I'll try. If it doesn't work, I can't backup PPM.

Well, when I get back home, if you're willing to trust me with FTP details, I'm happy to make backups of any sites who are having issues doing so themselves. I'm on a T1 line and effectively have unlimited HD space - so I'm all up for it ;)

Use Filezilla its a nice FTP program, IMO.

Dont you people have the website and files etc on your HD anyway?! You must have to upload it from somewhere.

Some forums use attachments... at least the attachments are my headache with PPM. There are over 5k attachments and after a certain ammount, windows 98 doesn't show anymore (neither any FTP program). My windows xp is not stable for backups.

If anyone needs me to back something up, I guess just ask... I have a fast connection and tons of HD space to backup too.

For those who use Firefox just get the programe FireFTP its great and really simple to use and it goes on like an extension so it takes no time to install. Very easy for uploading and downloading files.

I'd recommend you make a database copy. I will be doing that, but it's best if you do as well. The more copies of things are the less that can go wrong.

The SmartFTP 2.0 Beta is nice, and FileZilla is something that MM should check out for a FTP server and you guys can get the Clients too.

I use FlashFXP. Its a good FTP, it even keeps track of passwords and stuff so all I have to do is pick the server i want to connect to.
