*looks* Currently uses 60 MB. But don't let memory usage fool you... MS has hidden at half of what IE uses in other processes.

I never notice system lag now with a gig so saying that it uses 20 meg more is pointless when everyone has 1024 mb.

And LINUX doesnt work very wel, because its far too complex for the average user. You need to know quite a lot about computers if you want to work with LINUX. THAT is its main problem.

Daeda, when was the last time that you used a Linux?

As for the rest of your reply, Blaat has answered it already:

you will never know if that would have happened. You can't say that for sure. People would have come up with things

In short, if there was no Microsoft, there could be an IBM O.o? Afterall, IBM was also following the path of personal, cheap computers. Or anything else, who knows? Computers would be very different.

For one, you should see the computer at uni I'm on now, since the buttons from IE there are even more huge! (it must be a crappy version, the 'quick edit / full edit' mode is not supported either, nor can I cut/copy/paste anything).
And two, how do you know Microsoft isn't going to make evil plans? And three, tabs are very handy if you need to be on multiple sites at once. I, for once, hardly ever am on one site only. When you have dialup, one site can load while you read/reply at the other. Your start bar just gets cluttered with all these IE windows if you use IE. Also whenever I browse with IE, I get way more popups than with FF. FF blocks most, while IE does not. IE also has more spyware and adware infections. Before I used FF, I had this annoying adware in IE that was not detected by any program, a minute after starting up IE it'd go in full screen mode and load this ad page. Only way to get rid of it was to termine IE via the task manager and start it up again to continue browsing.
What makes you think FF isn't 'supervised'? It's open source, if anything there's a lot of people working on it. Rather than from a huge company where only a few know certain parts of the code. What's "gay" about a fox?
Luckily we can all choose the browser we like.

Firefox is the best for pr0n, crack and other illegal browsing activties if you did that with IE then you would have lots of free icons, screensavers and new services running.

I have used Norton Antivirus for as long as I can remember, even back then with that adware thing on IE.

Just because it says 'Microsoft' doesn't automatically imply it equals 'good'. The easiest way is not always the best one, in everyone's opinion. You may not been keen on FF, but I am, so what do you care?

Those last two lines didn't make much sense to me. What does a browser have to do with how many time you spend behind the computer? What gives you the right to call me sad for browsing Revora with FF instead of IE? Pretending to be a girl to get attention is much more sad imo .

sitting in front of your computer is bad for you.

I'm thinking you sat on the roof and had really long arms to type this, no?

Though I disagree with mad on most points (IE is quite unsafe. Before i used FF I had spyware everywhere.. and when I checked my adware scan last week (had not run it in 6 months or so it found hardly anything. So it must be safe)

However Gaia was talking complete crap wwhen saying "how do you know MS isnt installing stuff on your pc" well for the obvious reason that if MS did that they would be sued by quite some people.. and believe me, if things like that would occur we would know.

BTW Norton anti virus is like the windows of virusscaners.

If the people would find out. Perhaps you just haven't found out yet. You can't be 100% sure. Just because there's never been a lawsuit (correct word?) about it, doesn't mean it has never or will never happen. I'm not saying that they do, but for me it'd not be a good reason to choose IE over FF.

Exactly, MS would be extremely stupid doing that, because if we'd find out it would kost them billions. They wont take the risk, you can be completely sure over that. Mozilla is a less known compagny, and since its a free download I think it has a higher chance of being corrupted (MS being not at all, mozilla possible, but OS would probably make us not that in a sec, so chance close to 0 as well)

Linux is a free OS (most versions are), Windows isn't free. Linux has much less virusses and security holes being exploited though.. Just because you pay for something, doesn't make it better. But hey, if you want to pay for a webbrowser while I can download another (imo better) one for free, be my guest. I like what I use.

Isnt IE free :wtf:

Anyway, OS also has its negative sides.. its awfull hard to make money out of it, because securing your own software for protection is kinda hard if everyone has complete acess to the OS that controlls it. Therfor it is rather hard for LINUX to become the standard OS if you ask me. Free is a word most compagnies to not like.

nah windows isnt free, you have to buy it .
( unless of course you buy a PC with it installed etc )

but you can buy new copies and standalone versions.

Unless your 'aquire' it :p

And the only reason why linux is secure is because no one uses it except 1337 people who make viruses.
