Well, as I start modelling and skinnning more I guess I should have a thread where I can post finished work and ask for modelling/skinning help occationally.

First off are my Crebain Scouts model (a crow copied 20 times and re-binded and re-animated), and a new version of Saruman with a smaller staff head.

Next I have a question: does anyone know what bones the troll breast plate vertexes are binded too?

It's for a new Troll with Sword model I'm working on...but I can't seem to get him binded correctly. :p

Very nice.

Trolls are a major pain in the ass to bind, because you have to bind the mouth, jaw, fingers, and all that stuff.

I actually binded a troll in an ok fashion, it looked ok in ways but the only thing I had problems with is the rock, what bone do I bind that to?

Um, I don't know... maybe the firepointbone if there is one. Look for a seperate bone on the right hand labeled something like firebone.

You wouldn't happen to know what bones I attach the chest vertexes to, would you?

Use a thing called Trial and Error GTO :p. Bind them to every single bone until you find one that looks good

lol, yeah, I was doing that for all the ones I thought were possible (spine, pelvis, head, ect). I'll try the rest now too...

I'm going to be working on models the next day or two, hopefully I'll finish something and post it :)

New model/skin: Rhun Swordsmen.

Posted Image

Model and animations are the regular soldier of rhun, weapon changed to a sword with new skin by me. The model's new skin is a combination of Nertea's and mine (his robes, my armor. simply makes the colors more vibrant).

And before anyone mentions it, yes I know this has been done before. The soldiers of Rhun are my favorite units in-game and I wanted to make this model for myself :)

Well I have two new models to show you all, but one of them has a problem: it uses a copy of the gondorian shield, but in-game it shows up black...as if the lighting wasn't affecting it. Is there a setting somewhere that I might have messed up?

Thanks

Are you sure that those are the correct settings? Cause they didn't work for me... Those settings are definately what's causing the problem, but I can't find the correct ones. I either get both sides of the shield bright or pitch black.

I also noticed that the regular shield has 3 texture files: the regular tga/dds as well as a jpeg and png that seemed to have some sort of alpha channel on them... could that have something to do with my problem? And if so, how to I fix that?

Yeah, in gmax I made a copy of the regular gondor shield and renamed the texture it uses to a copy of the regular gondor shield tga file.

In-game the shield texture shows fine, but the back of the shield is gold like the edges on the front...so it seems that those settings are goofy. I'll try them again, maybe I did something wrong the first time.

EDIT: Nope, I just tried them and the shields were bright white on the back and very bright on the front...

I'll play with the settings and make it work.

EDIT2: wow, I didn't know that we had an anti-post-spam feature on the forums. It combined my two posts here, I guess I tested it out too fast :p

The Rhûn armor looks good, mind to post another render of it, but more close-up? Allows for criticism :p

hehe I know your prob you will have to unwrap the shield and find the part resposable from the back of the sheild, very easy to solve just pic the modifer uv unwrap then find the bit, and move it to a dark part of the texture or something :p
