I don't think that Yunru is particularly fond of anything Soviet, considering her story. If anything's she'd defect as soon as the opportunity presents itsel, unless she can forgive her superiors for the good of all.

You're right about that, but if she ends up being the leader of her own group, like the Iron Dragon's description seems to suggest, the question of how much she likes her superiors (not at all) becomes a moot point.

I guess it would be more accurate if I said that I think she would lead another underground movement using Soviet weaponry. She would be familiar with this weaponry, even if she doesn't like the organisation which used it until... whatever moment Epsilon achieves almost total global domination.

On another side, it seems like the Allies will fade totally for the Foehn act, if the Future Tank and Phantasm descriptions are anything to go with...

Last we've seen American forces are either in England with the rest of the Allies or destroyed, mind controlled by Epsilon in theirs own country.

Obviously the remnants at Alaska hid themselves away and became part of Last Bastion, but it really does look like the Allied is going to be gone for good.

Japan surrendered and there is a huge war going on in Korea so I don't see hope for PF either. Epsilon will eventually attack Australia as well.

I find the fact that there's been no mention of the Pacific Front's state in the released Act 2 missions rather... odd.  Of course, that might just be because the full briefings haven't been added yet, so we're probably missing some blurb to do with them.

And given the conclusion of E2-5 (and A2-5), it doesn't look all that hopeful for the Euro Alliance or the remnant Americans who holed up with them either.  The Soviets appear to have (temporarily) stopped their decline though.

Just a random thought; anyone reckon Eureka might be an older version of Yunru who jumped from China to Foehn as Epsilon took over her country?  Eureka's backstory is absent, they both appear to make use of shockwave/shockwave generating weapons, both appear to wear power armour and it's mentioned that Yunru is a pacifist but the stress she's constantly under is starting to make her... crack.  And if she's fighting to drive Yuri from China, she'd theoretically put aside her pacifism for the duration, doubly so if the mental stress has gotten to her.

Alternatively, anyone remember this?

Nah, if Einstein somewhat plays part in the story, it's probably his Project Paradox mystery, or what was it, that Siegfried tried to solve. Or maybe he got a child in this timeline, working behind the shadows on Foehn, maybe a daughter. With a very Einstein-y name like Eureka or something. Actually, Einstein having a daughter would be something like a paradox, as his first child IRL was a girl, but there's a lot of mystery surrounding her; like not even a name and she seemingly died a year after birth. There could be a whole mystery built up on that; though even if that was true, she would be quite old at the time of the events of MO (like around 80). But it's really wild speculation at this point, because there's barely any info that wasn't discussed to death already.

...Interesting choice of name there.  Coincidence?  Insider information?  Accidentally giving ideas to the MO team?  A wild stab in the dark that somehow hit the mark?

And, if Foehn really do have hibernation tech, who's to say it doesn't slow down aging?

No to both. The /inf/ subcathegory of MO site with images and previews was available for visiting for quite a while, and all Foehn hero previews were there. Eureka's preview file was there too.

I think we'd do well to look at the themes of the Foehn units. There's nothing asiatic about them. Nor is there any asian accent in their voice responses. On the other hand, there seems to be plenty of European influence. As for Eureka... as stupid as it may sound, it occured to me that she might be Libra?

Just played a tech share skirmish as Foehn against hard AI China w/ mental boost. Fun times but Foehn as a whole seems to be quite OP. It's really everything I ever wanted, great firepower with all-terrain mobility (Quetzal + Pteranodon blob ftw), my only regret is that it's not Epsilon stuff

I've always thought of Epsilon as being the quintessential example of everything wrong about the Age of Strife, since they have telepathic and telekinetic psykers, mutants, pirates, heretics, evil mad scientists, perhaps rogue AI, and are led by an Alpha-Plus level bastard. Now I see Foehn as the perfect demonstration of how a Dark Age of Technology army might look like on the battlefield, with nanoids, power armour, plasma weapons, railguns, anti-gravs, AI-controlled drones and such everywhere. The overall themes of unending conflict, uncertain allegiances, broken alliances, gray morality, behind-the-scenes manipulation, monstrous betrayal, and a slow descent into all-out hopeless warfare, madness and insanity are very fitting, too. If you somehow mod in Chaos and the Emperor, you'll be easily able to play the Unification of Terra xD So a 40k throwback is ENTIRELY appropriate.

As a semi-unrelated side note, with regards to Fin's likely placeholder appearance as a SPESS MEHREN, it'd be pretty cool if the Mental Meisters tried their hand at making a 40k mod for Red Alert 2. :p

It's not possible legally due to Games Workshop's IP policy. You have to make an entire new game, and even then it might get taken down.

And, 40k doesn't fit C&C in the slightest. It's too uniform for that, a large proportion of squads and units of every faction are variations of a single creature or chassis with different armament. Dawn of War series is tailored to that universe already, and there are some great mods for it if you want. You can create a game with similar aesthetics and themes to 40k, but a faithful recreation or reproduction is way outside of scope of RA2.

There is already a total conversion 40k mod for RA2 and 1 for zerohour, I think. As long as you don't mix the lore of 2 games together GW wouldn't care.

And yeah, Epsilon is down right extra heresy. Now if they can summon daemons from alternate dimensions then you have a very good Chaos warband lol. Foehn's goal of liberating mankind from oppression and control of Epsilon also fit in with what the Emperor want.

My favourite Foehn units are the Harbinger and the Shadray. Everything about the Foehn hints at a reorganization of the allied forces, probably with a new set of priorities: "yes, we'll free the world from Soviet and Epsilon messed-upness, but we'll be forcing our own ways as well ;)". The allies have always been the faction with the advanced tech and Foehn takes it up a step. We can't tell if it's intentional yet, but from a Lightning Storm to the Tempest seems rather fitting.

If the Foehn really do rise from the ashes of the allies, then it's story-wise a bit sad to see the Thor Gunship and all lightning related fun stuff go :(

Still, with the second-most badass unit from the GDI tweaked to perfection, I'm pretty happy that the Foehn have made an appearance.

Also: MADMAN OP. That thing is stronger than 2 nukes!

I went through all the lore stuff again and old news and recalled what I remember from the campaign and I'm pretty sure now that China, and especially Yunru is involved with Foehn, or at least its creation. All that "unidentified chinese unit", a soviet loading screen attacking China with a Foehn-like structure on the preview picture, the first Foehn mission's loading screen also in China, the Mastodon-like tanks that the lore of the unit also mentions to have been on a Chinese base... and why Yunru especially? She captured Volkov! She probably analyzed him, and then, if we put all this together, the Foehn AI/EVA is called the VOLKNET. Foehn being founded by a confirmed scientist and "named character we already know", all of that points to Yunru. And even the Kanegawa Industries being taken over by the Chinese.

So while yes, likely the soldiers and all that are mostly American, British, Australian, Remnants of the Allies, the person behind the technology used by these Remnants might be Yunru.

Who knows. Maybe lovasmidas was right. It is all about an Almost Perfect Yunru's Revenge. :p

"Volk" also means "people" in German, and the name "Foehn" itself is a German-originated word. There are hints tho that there's at least some international effort behind the Foehn Revolt. The Quetzal droneship has some South-American inspiration, while the Mastodon's prototype may or may not have Chinese origins. Also take a look at the Foehn particle collider weapons, and that the Iron Dragon uses a very similar gun, which was supposedly developed by Yunru.

Epsilon definetaly can summon demons. It's called a Bloatick Trap. I think the C&C3 engine would fit perfectly for a 40k themed mod, but the TS/RA2 engine is completely inadequate.

So that means I was right! Siegfried leads the Foehn!

Though if Volk means people, that kinda gives hint about China (being People's Republic). Sooo... Sieg x Yunru?

Well, it was also said in the description of the Nanofiber Loom that the Foehn's founder was the co-inventor of nanotechnology. So it is likely there are two scientists behind the Revolt, though one of them founded it first.

Edit: Also noticed something:

"In cooperation with Yunru's staff somewhere in Kashmir, the Iron Dragon was..."

"in Kashmir"

Accidentally giving ideas to the MO team?

There are cases where a very old suggestion do make it into reality. There are no lack of ideas just waiting for the right opportunity / assets / code function / balance / lol-factor to become good ideas.

As for Eureka... as stupid as it may sound, it occured to me that she might be Libra?

Now to hype that Yunru = Libra = Eureka.  :smile2ap:

....maybe I should stop thinking about it before I start shipping the wrong pair

There is no such thing as a wrong pair.

Who knows. Maybe lovasmidas was right. It is all about an Almost Perfect Yunru's Revenge. :p

The closer you are to the mod, the greater chance you are right. Not really magic, more because you are in better position to make it happen.

Proof: Speeder is almost always right. Well, duh.

Proof+: Mevitar is right a lot too. :p

Also, Yunru and Yuri has the same prefix, so...

I don't think this is a coincidence now.

The positioning of the arrows and shields are likely not coincidence too. I may mean the complicated ownership of Kashmir, India defending an attack on Pakistan is quite interesting... ahaha, what am I saying?

I went through all the lore stuff again and old news and recalled what I remember from the campaign and I'm pretty sure now that China, and especially Yunru is involved with Foehn, or at least its creation.
