Gameplay

The GDI Hornet only shows up as a special power aircraft. It has slightly less health then the GDI Firehawk.

I will discuss the powers associated with this aircraft in the next couple of sections.

 

 

EMP Mine drop

The EMP mine drop is GDI's PR safe version of the Nod mine drop (GDI has lost the PR battle, and have given up using explosive mines altogether).

Similar to the Nod mine drop, GDI's version is available as soon as an Orca pad has been built, and cost $750 to use.

 

The EMP mines only effect vehicles, so their usage is a lot more limited then the Nod mines, but to make up for this the GDI mine drop cost half the price of Nod version.

 

Used correctly it can easily turn a vehicle battle in your favour, or set up an ambush on enemy vehicles (the EMP effect last for 10 seconds).

Here some enemy vehicles have been caught after crossing a bridge

 

As is standard, the mines are stealthed by default, and require that your enemy has stealth detection in order to uncover, and destroy them.

EMP mines are used here to disrupt enemy harvesting efforts, and to prevent harvesters from retreating from attacks

 

To reiterate, the mines do not do any damage at all, and will not EMP anything else apart from vehicles.

 

 

 

Bombing Run

A lot simpler! This is available as soon as an Armoury has been built, and cost $2000 to use.

 

A pair of Hornets deliver a couple of large bombs to the target location.

The bombs are especially effective against vehicles, and they have a reasonable damage radius (larger then either the Firehawk or Vertigo bomb radius).

In terms of structural damage, it will cleanly destroy structures that have health up to the factions tier 2 structures (Command Post, Nerve centre, Operation centre).

Usage

The simplest use would be to use it like the Bombing run in Kane's Wrath is often used, target the docking point of your enemies refinery, and hope that they do not spot the visible beacon, or that the area is too crowded for them to clear it in time. The power of the bombs is such that  it will destroy harvesters with a clean hit (the Scrin harvesters shield mean that it requires a cleaner hit then the other sides), indeed it is possible to take out a decent number of harvesters if they are bunched up.

Would have preferred a better return honestly!

 

Of course you could try targeting enemy ground units, maybe in the thick of battle, they will not notice the beacon in time and you will do significant damage to them.

 

Finally of course, you can go for structures that your bombs are able to cleanly destroy.

I won't have to tell you what the correct target is, as it is situation dependent, and also depends on the skill of your opponent (or Skirmish AI!).

However in between enemy airfields is a good choice (especially when they have aircraft on them!), or a cluster of low tier static defences, etc.

Of course most of them took off!

 

The key is making sure that you are making the best use of your $2000 cost, when using this powerful tool.

 

Stats
Health: 2,650 (C&C3 Orca Bombing Run aircraft = 3,000)

Speed: 250 (C&C3 Orca Bombing Run aircraft = 200)

Recharge Time Mines: 180s

Recharge Time Bombing Run: 300s (C&C3 Orca Bombing Run aircraft = 300s)
Experience points (if destroyed): 2,000 (C&C3 Orca Bombing Run aircraft = None!)
