Well, Windows 10 revamped the uninstall system quite drastically from what it seems.  It even now shows me programs I didn't even know existed.  For some reason, MSN was one of them... hmm... makes you think.  Hardly.  But yea, Windows 10 does just fine if you want something gone.  Epic average win.

It probably won't work, but if it does there will probably be a workaround for those people who torrent stuff.

LOL. It may also spawn false positives (like the Windows Genuine Advantage did) and many things won't even get covered. As Irenë said, there will be workarounds anyway if that does happen.

Probably.  Though personally, I wouldn't mind if torrenting was minimized.  People getting games and software that are impossible to purchase is fine, but those people that download games and software to save a few bucks are sort of a problem.  I believe it's the sole black mark of PC gaming, and if Microsoft does something to help that?  Then sure... whatever.  But there are still "pirating" scenarios that they don't have any right to take action against.

Oh please. HBO isn't missing any revenue from me downloading their shows because if I couldn't download them, I wouldn't be paying for them anyway.

Bro, boxsets. Have you SEEN how pretty the GoT boxes are?

You expect me to pay hundreds of euro's for pretty cardboard?

Really?

No, if I couldn't download, say, Game of Thrones, I wouldn't buy it. I'm not getting a HBO subscription and I'm not buying boxsets. If anything, me downloading them is doing them good, because if I couldn't, I wouldn't be able to tell other people I like their show. Well, before season 5. What a drag that was.

Point is, a lot of people behave this way. They're not missing out on revenue that they would not have gotten in the first place.

No, I don't genuinely expect that :p

But I think your point actually fits in with Pasidon's, that you're not simply torrenting something simply because it's more convenient, but because admittedly buying the physical product is unnecessarily expensive.

I suppose. Well, I'm playing devil's advocate here, so I'm not entirely convinced by this viewpoint.

That's not entirely what I'm saying. Even if the box was 20 bucks, I still wouldn't buy it. I just don't want to spend my money on these things. So if I can't get them for free, I wouldn't get them at all. So thank god for the internet.

I don't mind paying for a streaming service that I have access to shows I want at any time, and in constant succession. This is the only way I will "pay" for such things as shows/movies. Going out and buying the disks is basically buying a product at an absurd mark-up for profit. The cost of each disk, and putting the content on them versus the cost they charge is like a 400% mark-up if I recall.

I think 400% is an underestimate, but I'm admittedly rather materialistic in terms of entertainment. I buy into it regardless (though, to be fair, I don't watch very many series nowadays, so every so often getting one isn't quite such a toll as it would be for some Netflix watchers I know).

Correction by PC Gamer: this will stretch to games from Microsoft's services only (Xbox Live, Games for Windows...), basically all MS-published games.

Ah.  Ok.  In that case, it's barely a problem for PC gamers.  It's not like they can prosecute me if I try and jam a pirated Halo Reach disk into my internet tubes.  ... Right?  No, that's stupid.  Right.  Nary ah' Microsoft game worth our corn.

Microsoft isn't spying on you, they can't shut down your software and zocom needs to stop using the word epic because he's too stupid to use it right.

By stupid, he means friend.  But on the subject of shutting down software, on a small scale, sometimes I leave my computer on when I have a video paused when I sleep.  And when I wake up, chrome is shut down.  I can tell my computer never restarted since other applications are the same.  That's never happened before Windows 10, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

I'm not sure that's a Windows 10 problem, as I had that happen on 8/8.1. Then again, all manner of odd things have happened because of Chrome for me.

I do think Chrome updated as a response to Windows 10.  I think that update did a few weird things, like themes constantly changing and sites being blocked because of malware detection.  I believe a topic in T3A was tagged as a malware threat a few weeks ago for absolutely no reason.  Thankfully, I can turn that threat protection crap off.  The bad news being, I don't have that threat protection crap on.

That's so easy to fix. It's called... "don't use Chrome."
