Guhh...  Well, this was fairly predictable to be fair.  You may have noticed this project, as a group of outstanding internet citizens decided to remake Resident Evil 2 using the Unreal 4 Engine.  It was a complete remake as well, putting in every detail from the original game, except using modern graphics.  In other words, these people put a small portion of their lives into making this, and it just gets snuffed out by Capcom because they suddenly decide they want to make a Resident Evil 2 remake as well. Strange how they made this decision right when this independent remake was just getting popular.  What's the big deal?  The team behind Reborn put lots of work into this project, and they were going to release it for free.  Free.  Will Capcom be doing that?  Oh, no.

But it's also noted that Capcom weren't completely tin brained.  They actually invited the team to their evil Asian HQ so they could help them discuss the game's development.  I've read a couple of articles on this, and it seems that the word "discuss" seems to be the idea.  Not help.

Does that really make it any better?  There is no way they were going to do a Resident Evil 2 remake coincidentally this year with Reborn.  You know when they made the remake to Resident Evil 1?  2002.  Yea. And they were totally planning on doing a remake of the next game 13 years later out of nowhere.  And they ask them to come on down to the shop for a few kind words?  It's great that neither party is openly bitter about the whole thing, but these people got Copyright slagged, wholesale.  Still not as bad as Project Middle Earth getting beaten in by WB because it "conflicted" with the release of Shadow of Mordor, a completely different genera of game.

I doubt Capcom were influenced by this to remake it themselves... fans have been asking for it ever since the original REmake. It is sad they would ask for it to stop though, I can't see it effecting sales at all, considering they would be different products in the end with different takes on the original formula. It is very good of them to invite the Reborn developers though, it's more than a lot of companies would do... hopefully they don't have to pay for their own expenses. :p

I hope to god Capcom do it right, and keep the original perspective, puzzle gameplay, add features like random item placement for longevity and make it harder. RE2 is my favourite game ever so I'd really like to see this done well, unlike the newer RE games. Oh and hopefully they don't retroactively update the story to better support later games... the non-canon story arc in 2 is the best one.

If they keep the original fixed camera style, then it'll be hard enough.  I have no idea how I used to play games like that.  But yea... those ideas would be great.  But this is Capcom... they're just deteriorating as time goes on.  They made the amazing resident Evil 4, then the mediocre Resident Evil 5..... then the borderline unspeakable Resident Evil 6.  I would like to say "how could they possibly screw up a Resident Evil 2 remake???"  But... this is Capcom.  They have mastered the art of capitulation, even in the face of impossible odds.

As someone who plays RE2 through maybe once every 6 months / year it's pretty easy, so adding some harder options for the hardcore fans would be nice. Afterall, ideally the life of this remake will be just as long as the original so anything that extends the replayability is most important. Random items, random enemies, different puzzles with random elements, respawning enemies, deeper use of the zapping system... just some things I'd like to see.

If it's a dumbed down action fest like 4, 5 & 6 then feck it. Not even buying. 4 was fun at the time but I get so bored of it trying to play it now, it's just run forward and shoot stuff, even though it is far better than 5 ever was. Couldn't bring myself to play 6. Revelations was just as shit as 5 but without triple-A polish.

I didn't want to turn this into totally slagging off the series, because I'll love 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica & REmake forever.

It's hard not to slam down the salt shaker since they have just been ruining the franchise recently.  It would be great if they changed a few things in the remake of 2, but then again, I don't want them being creative at all.  They'll probably do something retarded, like add the slab of meat named Chris into the game somehow and make it another awkward coop (100% not horror) slap in the face.  Or change the story.  Oh gawd... Capcom... please don't touch the writing.  Or the character design.  I don't want anymore big breasted face tentacle global saturation invincible lava zombie bull-crap.  Never again.
