Lost in the seas of Tol Eressea, the legendary Twilit Isles have been host to many battles throughout the ages. These series of islands and archipelagos were once enchanted by the Valar, cursing them to host impossible storms, summoned over the dark waters that were said to be unnavigable by mortal men. Even the sands themselves were enchanted, rumored to put anyone who walked over them into a deep sleep.
Into the 3rd age, as the magic of the Valar began to fade, the enchantments of the cursed isles have eroded. Only mysterious blue sands remain, remnants of the power these islands once held. This map is my design of the Twilit Isles of the 3rd age, depicting the long abandoned battlefields far after the scourge of Morgoth.
It features a massive island designed for 4 vs. 4 matches, with tactical sea ports that allow players to explore both the land and seas, as both are designed with diverse terrains that will give players a challenge. The central island itself is a wide-open landscape with narrow chokes in the center that allow for pivotal tactical decisions. While the chokes are easy to defend, the vast seascape allows for players to siege their enemies from many different angles. But in respect to the legend, the waters of the Twilit Isles are difficult to navigate, containing jagged rocks, treacherous crags, and intricately designed ruins that will amp up the enjoyment, and usefulness of naval battles.
As for the ascetic, the map is a gorgeous attempt at cobbling the relatively unknown Twilit Isles. This is my most intricate map yet (and possibly the most intricate map ever created) that will have so much to explore. I've designed it using techniques never before seen in the BFME community, such as a fully functioning weather system. The isles are set under a looming storm, slowly approaching as the battle goes on. I've also put lots of detail and attention into the natural components and ruins, creating a very cool anthropological / geological history all across the battlefield. I've put over 30 hours into this map so far (many more to come), and I guarantee it is one of the most beautiful RTS maps you'll ever see. This is the first map I've made in years, and it'll probably also be my last. SO YOU BETTER LIKE IT.
Here's a little taste of it. More images to come. Follow this topic and stay tuned for future updates.
