Hello I was wondering if anyone knew about games that play similar to the commandos series.

I know of the Desperados games and Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood and The Mission 1937 which look a little similar, but was wondering if anyone knew of any more.

Here are the reviews of two cheap (in terms of quality) Commandos copycats:

Beyond the Law: The Third Wave

Rebels: Prison Escape

According to similartype.com these games are also similar to Commandos:

Soldiers: Heroes Of World War II
Elite Forces: Unit 77
Men Of War
Korea: Forgotten Conflict
Chicago 1930

I've played Men of War, it is less like commandos than the other games mentioned I think, still a good game though.

I playes faces of war a lot of time. I also used to play it online a lot, I was cuervo If anybody can remember. Faces of war is the first part, men of war is like an expansion. I love faces of war, Im also thinking in convert faces of war to commandos in future.

commandos is very unique when it comes to play style, there is not so much out there like it.

it is like a combination of a ww2 strategy game and a puzzle game. hard to explain.

men of war is more of a realistic ww2 strategy game

other ww2 rts from around the time:

Close Combat series

Sudden Strike series

Blitzkrieg series

I like cheese

Thanks for the replies, I will have to try some of these at some point

I just gave desperado's another shot and is pretty good, will try faces of war too :)

Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far I have played that, that was a great game, was extremely realistic for a game in the mid 90s   :D

Yes, men of war have all the commandos features, aslo plus new added, this is why i said is the succesor, that means will replace in future, (Faces of war is the previous game before this) but anyway is just about opinion. The Desperados game is cool, but not as good becuase is Wild west themed, you can give it a try...

I've played men of war but I think it plays completely different to commandos, commandos is kind of like a mixture of a strategy and puzzle game, and you have to figure ways to get round objectives using tactics whilst being stealthy, it's very unique when it comes to play style i think, where as the men of war games is more focused on realism. I like men of war but it's a completely different style of strategy game :D

I think I might have something for you.

We’re a developer team from Germany, currently working on a real time tactics game set in Japan 1615. I think you might like it for its rather not-so-casual difficulty and the old-school feeling of stealth and tactical play.
Here’s more info: http://www.mimimi-pr...shadow-tactics/

The game is currently in alpha status, so we’re looking for passionate Commandos players who would like to play it and tell us what they’d like to see in the game. Send me a message if you're interested :)

This looks like how the later Desperado games should have been.

In all honesty, it doesn't look very appealing either. Weird graphical style.

It makes me think of the Duke Nukem sidescroller where you could also miss a platform and fall to your death. And I like how he waves the katana.
