When RA3 came out I thought it was excellent. I wanted to play co-op with a friend so much, but I couldn't convince anyone else I knew at the time to spring $60 for the game. Never ended up playing co-op and forgot about the game for a few years.

Ra3 was on sale on steam for $15 a couple of years ago. I thought this was finally my time. I bought a couple of copies, only to learn the gamespy server had shut down. Bad luck. Still no co op for me.

In 2014, I heard about cnc-online. Set the game up, could see each other. So close. But then the game wouldn't connect. I heard it had something to do with a "natneg" server, so I guess I was SOL again.

18 months later, here we are. People are playing RA3. I must surely, FINALLY, be able to play the game. But when we try to click start:

"Connections are in progress, or connection problem detected. Please wait for the connection to finish, or kick the player who has the connection problem. Failed connection: 1 - 2"

Solution 1: If you got the game(s) through The Ultimate Collection bundle, DOWNLOAD THIS to prevent connection issues to people that don't have The Ultimate Collection.  - Not applicable. Both copies are from steam.
Solution 2: User Elancore has posted several images of all the correct Generals and Zero Hour settings. Take a look at them here.  - Not applicable

Solution 3: Try adding C&C:Online to your Firewall exceptions. Use Google to find out how this is done.  - Exceptions were made on both computers, and ultimately firewalls were shut off altogether
Solution 4: Do you have Hamachi, Tunngle or similar services installed? Try to disable their virtual network devices and shut them down. If it doesn't help, try uninstalling them and rebooting your computer. The IP address in the game's Options > Network settings must be your computer's LAN IP (e.g. 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x). - Neither computer has anything that would create a virtual network device. LAN IPs are set appropriately.

Solution 5b: [RA3 ONLY] Removing the static port: If, when starting a game in RA3, your connection always times out, try the following: - Tried it. No dice.
Solution 6: Try opening your DMZ in your router settings. More information on how to do this can be found here.- -No Luck. Doesn't work.

I have also tried forwarding the port 16000, but no service seems to be running on it.

After all these years, I just want to play a co op game of RA3! Apologies if I have missed something, I have done my best to search the forums, and read the pinned threads.

I have the same problem. I found out that it works with my friend's internet, but that does not solve the problem at home.

I also did the same things from the ReadMe-Section.
The weird thing is that it works sometimes, altough I did not change the settings. Restarting the game does not work in this case.

Often, that error message will stop appearing after a minute or two after creating the room.

Is it the same host each time? Try joining another room with different people to check if it's really you.

No, unfortunately not, because when i'm at a friends flat, it always works fine. Only at home it does not work.

Even when i put the security settings of the modem at low, it does not work. Weird thing is, that it works sometimes but most times not.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Disable all port forwarding and DMZ in your router.
  2. Download my new diagnostic tool here: http://server.cnc-on.../NATNegTest.rar
  3. Extract it into a folder and double-click on the .bat file.
  4. Paste the output here.

Hi,

I disabled UPnP and DMZ on my Router and i get this.

When I activate DMZ the connection works, but DMZ is not secure, right?

It appears your router and/or connection is not capable of NAT negotiation.
==> You will need to use port forwarding and possibly configure a static port.

Yeah so you're out of luck with the normal NAT negotiation and unfortunately EA botched port forwarding for RA3, so that's not an option either.
You could set the DMZ option before you play RA3 and just turn it off again afterwards...
