Hello everybody!

Afer countless attempts of trying I have come to the conclusion to ask for help here.

So my problem is the following.

I started modding Rise of the Witchking a few years ago already.

I learnt the basics of coding and now I started making my own faction for the game.

I sucessfully completed the tutorial for adding new units to the game and now I tried

to do the same thing with buildings.

The problem here however is that whenever I load my building in RenX and I try

to add the texture it wont display the texture. Someone already told me it would

be very easy to just pull the texture from where its being stored like folder/desktop

onto the texture but for me it did not work.

For some reason adding a texture to a unit is not problem at all but adding a texture

is a problem. I also looked everywhere for a tutorial for this specific problem but

I could not find anything, not even on The3rdAge website.

I would be very happy if someone knows how to fix this problem its really driving

me crazy because I cannot continue with my mod.

If further informations should be required just let me know.

Kind Regards,

Easterling26

I think it might be because you're using the old w3dimporter, which can't handle BFME2 buildings' textures. There's a new version of it though, which can do that. The only caveat here is that it's been written for 3dsMax, so full compatibility with RenX is not guaranteed.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I have heard of 3dsMax is it a free program ?

I saw many people using it in their tutorials.

Do you recommend it?

No problem!
Well, technically it's not, but it's still, erghm, obtainable. What might serve as an excuse for getting Max for free, is that the only versions you can both import and export BFME models and anims with are 3dsMax 7 and 3dsMax 8 (the bottleneck here is exporting, whose libraries are incompatible with other versions of Max), which are around 8-9 years old, which makes them pretty much obsolete, and therefore, by going for 'free' versions of 3dsMax 7/3dsMax 8 you don't really deprive their creators of well earned rewards, since, I guess, there's no demand for them left anyway.
If going for the free option is a concern for you though, I'd suggest you to have a go with the new importer in RenX.

I've never tried working in RenX, so don't know whether Max 7/Max 8 has any advantages over RenX - perhaps other people around could give you a more detailed answer to that.

If you want to get 3ds Max 8, send me a PM.

Going for the free option is not a concern for me at all.

Its for the good of the modding community and the LotR fans so I am totally fine with

obtaining it the free way.

You do not by any chance have a free copy of it?

Or do maybe know how I could obtain it for free?

This would make it a lot easier for me because I do struggle a lot

with RenX.
