I followed these instructions but the game crashes on startup every time. Has this happened to anyone else? Also is there a good way to figure out specifically why it is crashing so much?

Check the link at the end.

Hey guys. I've followed the instructions and have everything installed (1.06 BFME2 and Patch 2.02 ROTWK). Since win10 doesnt allow me to install deamon tools (compat issues) I've used wincdemu and I mounted the ROTWK mds file. Everything went well at the start. I got into the main menu but then the game crashes or force closes without any message as soon as i click on skirmish, multiplayer or anywhere where the Selection menu appears (selection of the factions, or hero editor).

Any ideas why this happens?

EDIT: Fixed it with the help of this link :) https://forums.revor...-and-t3aonline/

Oh and can i install the latest edain mod with the 2.02 patch? (On the edain page it says that i have to have the 2.01 patch)

I am reworking the installation guide. https://cdn.discorda...ation_guide.pdf Here is a link if you would like to proof read it before it replaces this one.

You will need the patches and read the green text at the end of the guide.

So... i managed to go through the guide, but game asks me for cd. As I mentioned - it is in 1.09, but i already installed it. And when i try to make resolution optimize in mod switch - it says that there is no otions.ini, but i already created new folder with right name (ctrl+c, ctrl+v) and placed there options and Maps. Where is my mistake? i think that the game just dont see that roaming folder, but i dont know how to fix it.

UPD:

I did the same for Rotwk. So when i start it it gives me crash report

it says:
expected signed integer value, math op, or predefined marco, but found

' MORDOR_FORTRESS_WALLHUB_EXPANSION_BUILDCOST'

and sm other errors.

RotWK needs BfME set to version 1.06. You can do this with the BfME 2 1.09 patch switcher.

Reinstalling the game should fix that.

Can you tell me exactly what you did to install the game?

Are you able to use CCleaner a registry cleaning program to remove registry entries leftover from RotWK? Do this after uninstalling the game. Try using a different cd key.

I haven't looked at CCleaner in years and I just found this article, I cannot recommend using it (the article doesn't list alternitives for the function you want which is "cleaning" the registry).

About the guide:

This installation guide has the original game disks and the latest patches from EA and community patches (the community patches fix issues with the game because of outdated anti-piracy features that will disable even an original physical game disk).

P.S.

I also suspect, that since you mention "repacks" you may have had installed the forshire repackage. This may have irrepairably messed up the Windows registry. A Windows 10 Fresh Start (please read a guide for this) or using a different computer may be the only option.

I am struggling with getting the game to run before downloading patches... I have mounted the cd and installed the game with a key, but when i go to run the game again it says I need to insert the CD... Should i download the patches first?

Yes, please download and install the patches. And complete the installation guide, you'll need to setup options.ini for the game to work on Windows 10.

Thanks Matt and Mathijs for keeping this alive :-)

"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

I'm having issues trying to get this to work, mainly because my computer is blocking me from using the CD key generator thing. Any alternate way to get it working?

Try temporarily disabling your anti-virus.
