Hey guys,

a friend of mine and I recently installed Red Alert 3 again to play through the coop campaign. We installed the tool and everything worked fine. But as soon as we are in-game together, the connection seems to be very slow, the game stutters and sometimes completely freezes while we still are able to click units and hear the sound. If we play the game each on ourselves the lags disappear. We tried lowering graphical settings and play skirmish, but no luck; the game runs very slow as soon as we are in an online match.

Can anybody help us to make the game run smoothly in online matches? Help would be very appreciated!

That's a hard one. It just might be that your CPUs are having to work harder in the CO-OP and over heating (that does happen a lot with these games). If that seems likely the answer is to clean your CPU and GPU fans. I guess the way to find out would be to see if it happens with a few AI in a match. Does the slow down get progressively worse after the start, as that is a pretty good sign that there is an overheating problem somewhere?

I guess you guys are not playing from the same local area network? That can cause major problems with RA3 CO-OP games.

Hey, thanks for answering!

We thought of that, but neither of our processor is dusty and (in fact) I cleaned my GPU recently :D

Does the slow down get progressively worse after the start

No, the game is playable, but just continuously slow, stuttery. Sometimes for a few seconds it runs smoothly and then it is back to what seems like 20FPS. And besides: We both have the exact same slowdown-patterns, so my guess was that the server has a problem.

No, we play on different networks, as (I think) the RA3 COOP-campaign is running via internet only.

He is playing on Windows 8.1 while I am running the game on Windows 10. We both use the Steam-Version of this game, if that is any good to you.
It's not like the game is unplayable for us; AI games are running on ~120FPS while the online modes cause an FPS-drop to about 30. We can live without a fix, but a more "fluent" game experience would be very appreciated^^

Try closing any unnecessary programs that might be clogging your connections or using up your CPU.

The engine is forcibly capped to 30 FPS, BTW.

Maybe this is the reason after all. Thanks for your answers!
