The grey layer on top of the screen is a "depth of field" effect. It is not a bug or anything. It is supposed to be there. The problem is that the shellmap is not visible for some reason. What do you mean by "on parts of the map"? Do you see anything when you start playing or is it just a black screen?

When I start playing everything is normal but about after 2 minutes, when I scroll to random parts of the map my screen goes black, but the hud (map and general skills) are still visible.

Can you check if you encounter this problem with Zero Hour or other mods too? It seems like a very rare problem you're having.

Only in contra 009. I've redownloaded contra from torrent (contra 009 v2 RLM) and it works fine.

Which Contra do you have a problem with? 009 Beta (official) or 009 RLM?

I searched in Google about your problem and stopped here: http://forums.cncnz....en-playing-usa/

So, my suggestion is, go to Options and turn Heat Effects off. If it doesn't help, check if selecting the lowest graphics possible solves the problem.

Edit: If you have an Nvidia graphics card, go to control panel and check the "Let the 3D application decide" box. One person told me that it fixed the problem.
