Hello everyone.

I have another problem with my mod.

Yesterday I had alot of time to work on my mod

and I made a lot of progress until I got this game.dat

crash.

I reverted back to the beginning of my work but still

the game crashes.There is no information about this

crash.I tried to look inside the crash dumpfile or what it is called

but I could not find anything in there.

I only worked on the commandset,commandbutton and on the lotr str file.

I did not modify the gamedata file. I assume that Game.dat and gamedata are

the same.

I also worked on the menporter file from EA and I worked on my porters.

I have a Arnor Porter and a Rohan Porter( These porters where made by me so they dont mess with any orginal files).

I was adding a module that allows me to use two commandsets for my porter.

I found this method on the 3rd Age. Its a weapon toggle module.

I am not sure whether this module is causing the Game.dat crash or if my commandset/command

buttons are the reason.

What could cause a Game.dat crash? I am quite confused now because everything that I modifed is now

back to normal but it still crashes. Not even my backups could fix the problem.

I really hope someone can help me here because I am completely out of ideas how to fix this problem.

Yes the vanilla games still works.

@Plokite_Wolf

Is there any way to avoid reinstalling the games?

It's easier to restore the game's functionality this way. When removing a mod, it's often possible that you miss one single file or setting which breaks the game.

A good tip for bugfixing is attempting to run Worldbuilder. When it crashes, it tells you which part of the code is wrong. The game can pass through some minor errors, but almost all of them break the Worldbuilder.

One thing that eases this unavoidable issue while coding is to keep a meticulous changelog. That way you can revert your changes bit by bit to see what causes the crash.

@Plokite_Wolf

For a very odd reason the Worldbuilder did not crash at all.

@Mathijis

I have some kind of changelog. I always make a note behind the code that

tells me what the orginal code was.

So far I believe that the mod itself is causing the issuse.

The vanilla game work perfectly fine.

I think I should undo all the changes I made yesterday.

Even the changes in my porter files.

What you need is to narrow down what's the cause. Play a match just by yourself and test out everything on each faction. Then i.e. if you're game crashes when buying one of your porters, then something from the porters is causing the crash.

@Rider of Rohan

Thanks for your answer.

The problem is as soon as I start my mod I get that game.dat crash.

I cant even get in the game.

I tried to run the world builder to see if it would crash but nothing happened.

WB and the vanilla game run perfectly fine.

I however had noticed that the shortcut of my mod had changed.

Both of the directions are the same. Start in and target are both the same.

Can stuff like that changed all of the sudden?

@Echo

Thank you for the link.It is very useful indeed but sadly it does

not have anything related to my problem.

I went through everything in Known Game.dat errors that could be related to anything

that I modified but there was nothing wrong with it.

I had noticed that my rohan units also cause a crash with this

Error report.

ERROR:Could not open include in

Data\INI\Object\goodfaction\rohanelvenwarrior.ini line 1,file

Data\NI\Object\goodfaction\units\includes\StandartUnitEvaEvents.inc parent file

unknown)(0):ntdll+235778 RtInitializeExeceptionChain+54

Because of the severity of this error the game will exit now.

Does anyone know what this problem could be?

I assume that the game.dat crash is related to my rohan units.

I had kept a backup of my units. This crash is caused by my backup units

in my rohan folder.

Atleast now I have some kind of report. Before I used my backup units I did not get report.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have made a another rather odd discovery.

I removed the commandset and the commandbutton from my mod and the game worked

without a crash.All my stuff was of course gone but it did start.

Then I tried to remove the commandbutton and I left the commandset and I got the same

game.dat crash like I always got.

Then I did the same with the commandset.So only the commandbutton ini was in my mod

and the game started without a crash.

Could this mean that there is something wrong in my commandset?

I was suprised that the game did not crash when I removed the commandset.

I thought that commandset and commandbutton need each other in order to operate correctly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I fixed it. Everythings works again.

So sorry for being so annyoing but I was really getting

upset for almost losing 2 years of hard work on my mod.

The actual problem was my commandset. In fact it was a very small

code error.

Anyway thanks for all of your help guys, I really appreciate it.

Well remember that if you remove a file the game will simply read the vanilla one instead. So if the game works when you remove commandset then the problem you are having is most definitely related to it somehow. It might not be in there, it could be something that references it. Most likely you have a typo somewhere. Have patience and go over your code very carefully, you will find the error. Good luck! Game.dat crashes are annoying to deal with.

Not sure if it was mentioned already but as you may have figured out by now a game.dat crash is not always related to gamedata.ini, it's simply a coincidence in similar file names, not always related.

@Kwen

Thank you for your answer.

It was indeed a typo and I did not see it.

I did not know that game.dat and gamedata.ini were not

the same thing.I was looking in the wrong place.

In my case it was not related to the gamedata.ini at all.

The names were confusing me.

Thank you again to everyone who tried to help and
