So... basically the problem is you can't recognize the cameo in comparison to the actual structure being built?

 

To be honest I myself can't even see where is the Riot Trooper in his cameo. I can see metallic tower or something, or a person covered within layers of layers of silver blanket. I can see a humanoid figure on the left side, but on the middle and the right side I can't clearly tell what those are (the right side I can see it's a translucent shield with allied symbol on it, I think)

 

But it's not really an issue worth being debated on, is it..? Whenever I play, I just know that the Riot Trooper is that silver blob with greyish sunset background.

 

First time I see it I was just like "hmm, I can't see the Riot Trooper in this cameo... oh well" and that's that.

I'm surprised you are THAT annoyed by it, that you need to be able to recognize it. Perfectionist much..?

indeed. the current psychic tower cameo looks like a heap of random metal, while the background is so much in monotone with the actual "structure" it becomes hard to see. other cameos are hard to tell, exacly what is what, like the warturtle, stormchild, stinger, SODAR, athena, destroyer and others. you, handepsilon and someone else, think im much more annoyed than i actualy am. i state i cant see what the specific units and building are in their cameos, with you proving that im not the only one with this issue. i dont think im the one who is exaggerating.

 

ALSO: the allies power booster (power turbine) i think is not powerful enough. i usualy find myself with a slow power generation as allies, and even sometimes epsilon. nuclear power is biblical of course, but i think allied power turbines should be buffed SLIGHTLY.

 

and on that note, does certain infantry generate more power inside bio reactors than others?

It is true that the problem of unable to ascertain the cameo image clearly is not happening only to you.

 

But there is a difference between what we did with that issue:

You go as far as posting your complain in the thread about it, even claiming that the experience of playing the game as a whole is gotten so bad because of it. Which means you want the devs to go as far as reverting them back or at least make them recognizable, correct?

 

Me? I never mention it and keep it to myself since I knew it's not something big enough in general to be posted on the thread as a complain worth mentioning. For instance, my experience playing the game with the keep-changing cameos each update are pretty fine. If it's really blurry to the point I can't even tell anything, I look it up on the main site to see what it is, case closed. I never even have a slight of thought to ask the devs to make them recognizable, since I knew it's just not worth the effort compared to what it would yield.

Maybe you're being too spammy with the defense structures. I find myself almost always fine with 6 or 8 upgraded power plant for everything.

just because some people stated that they disagree with you doesn't mean that others don't disagree, although I agree that some Cameos can't be recognized on first sight it is easy to memorize them later.

please remember that this is a mod not a full-time project, so you can't expect everything to be perfect or that massive changes will happen. besides... we already saw the new flak trooper and conscript cameos in speeder's latest play through of juggernaut so we can hope for cameo changes in the future.

as for power plants : 
allied power plants are easy produce and it's not that hard to keep yourself on low power, this isn't vanilla YR where low power just lowers your production time by some unnoticeable amount but rather a 50% cut on production speed time! so be more conservative with power plants.

soviet nuclear power plants although may seem unfair compared to allies' power plants, can be a disadvantage due to housing all of your power supply in 1-3 (the usual number depending on how long the game lasts) because they can be taken down with 1 strike and that if you manage to sneak a spy in them you get 30 more seconds of power shutdown compared to spying normal Tier 1 power plants.

On the topic of cameos, i think the thor gunship, and dragonfly cameos should be changed to a different angle. The thor is just a horizontal dealy, and i thought the dragonfly was a plane (then i built one, couldn't find it for a while, then saw a tiny choppa)
But otherwise, most/all are fine

  • yes, the experience is worsened, when i am uncertain about what click in the sidebar.
  • you make it sound like i think the experience is RUINED with cameos. no, i dont. MO is not even ruined with ALL asthethic aspects considered, it still remains a minor issue.
  • yes. obviously i alone is not enough to make the devs change it, but with enough other people alongside reasoning, i think it can be done. why else do we have this thread?
  • i know you mostly keep it to yourself, i didnt imply you did.
  • i know what each cameo is, yes, but they arent very clear, and if they WERE clear, there wouldnt be any issue with being confused in the heat of battle, where your mind is racing.
  • good for you, but if something is unrecognizable, then should we just leave it like that?
  • its a problem when building production structures, and becomes a VERY big problem when starting to build defenses and support buildings.

im fully aware this is a non-profit passion prjoect, and i could never make demands, only suggestions which speeder, and such, could consider. these asthethic change proposals are realy not as serious as people think i am about them. it kinda makes me laugh honestly. but i gotta check out that video you mentioned.

 

i know the story of nuclear power plants, but im more concerned with allied and somewhat epsilon power plants powerboosters. i still dont think turbines are good enough, and i find that bio reactors cant always keep up as well, in the late game, no matter how many dudes i cramp into them. and again, do certain infantry make more power than others?

All infantry are treated equally in the socialist commune of Bio Reactor. Even Libra will not be allowed to give more power than a Conscript. It is the Spook's domain, after all :p

 

And to be fair about cameos, it takes skill to get the details on a space of limited pixels. There is the route of doing it like CnC1 Demo, CnC3 / KW etc, where the cameo is simply a clone of the object in empty space. Even those might look weird. Speeder probably only thought of changing cameos because someone had already made it (I may be wrong).

pixel limitation is understandable, but as someone else pointed out: the overall shape and silhouette can still be recognized, if you see the object/person from a certain ANGLE.

Can we have a new pinned topic on the forum for new players to help them adjust to the game? For this mod to grow we need to be accommodating, espically for a RTS game with a high learning curve. Right now we only have a couple unpinned misc topics about strategy but nothing centralized. If not a welcoming topic, then how about a centralized strategy discussion topic? I'm sure I don't have to explain the inherent value in having one of those.

One last cameo comment from me, the epsilon gates cameos need changing, as both look the same. Allieds and Soviets are better.

Actually, I prefer the anime cameos of Yunru and Libra because they look out of place, and as such, instantly recognizable, unlike many other cameos. Also giving more personality to the heroes that way. :V

Off-topic but now that I think about it...Mental Omega is a story that start with a realistic, serious Cold War 2.0 and seems suspiciously close to being a futuristic war between two lolis.

It's like watching band of brothers and all of a sudden it became Girls Und Panzer.

It's an old teaser for Foehn.

It seems to be a hint about the upcoming story. There was a description on one of the videos which says something like, "the Mastodon protects, the Megalodon destroys, the Pteranodon searches".

It seems that Coronia is on the hunt for someone important, maybe an enemy because of the way the message taunts you.

  • am i the only one who has a problem with zorbfloaters crushing own infantry by dropping tanks onto them? i know micro, but its like their primary attack, and the possibility for dropping them onto your own inf and INSTAKILLING them, is kinda silly.
  • what good use do sonic emmiters have by being able to shoot through walls if they destroy them? they DO destroy walls, even your own right? if so, is this purely for being able to basepush with them countering walls, as an added bonus to just that? if i were to basepush, i wouldnt use sonic emmiters in favor of railgun towers.
  • will quilin tanks get a unique feature? right now, it just seems like the biggest pair of MBT balls, is their feature. i still remember the nuclear power plant boost. why was that removed again?

EMP countermeasure is quilin Unique feature. No idea why the speed boost was cut. But they could recieve a speed boost via iradiation maybe?

Well well here I go again
Spinblade's speed bonus is way over the top when it comes to roadrunners and jackals. For things like minermites and sweepers it is ok but both jackals and roadrunners are already fast units with a huge offensive potential. In short, speed 12 is overkill and last for way too long outside the spinblade location. Speed 12 is what? a +4 over the fastest units in the game? please speed bonus nerf or no speed bonus for top speed units

And about roadrunners. These things need a few tweaks to make them less broke. One of them is their ability to crush infantry. The second is the amount of hitpoints and armor type. Right now you can simply throw them inside an enemy army delete all infantry and make the tanks explode. For some sub-factions, there is not even a way to deal with that other than base defenses which is unfortunate.
In return for more balanced stats, the time it spends disabled after firing could be reduced.

I'm pretty sure they can't, because I use them behind walls to shoot through walls.
