I noticed the ini files for 3.3 are locked to being extracted.

I understand therewere precautions take to prevent mo content from being stolen, but what about casual ini modders like myself that just like to tweak and playa round with the files for personal use? It would improve the experience for a lot of us if the files were released for private use.

If ini files are publicly accessible, it will be chaos out there IMO, also if the ini files fall into the wrong hands, the mod's gaming experience will be spoiled too, I guess this is why the devs lock the files for good.

I think the most sensible reason is that 3.3 is far from completed, it still needs bug fixing and balance tweaks as well as replacing place holder contents. Once the real final version is out they might really make the ini accessible for everybody.
Also, the inis contain spoilers. Big ones.

How does that make any sense? The entire game is freely downloadable - indeed, you can even play every mission from the very first second - and freely watchable on YouTube as well. What are 'the wrong hands'?

Please, if you see a mistake in my posts - spelling, grammar, punctuation, or whatever else - point it out. How can one learn from mistakes, if one is not corrected?

The inis are useless without the art and sound, maps.....assets anyway, so that's not the reason.

IMO maybe in the future I think if the devs want to release some 'non-lethal' ini files for personal use, they may release them separately. If the main MIX files are not locked there may be a higher possibility the devs' hard work like maps and models will be used by other modders without permission for their own good. These are merely my opinions though and I don't mean to accuse or point at anyone else. What we can do is to respect the devs decisions ,help improve the mod and wait for announcements.

Sooner or later... Time will tell...

I see the point of keeping them under lock and key while the rest of the campaign is not yet released. It would be good to see those files released alongside the final release, though. Thanks to everyone to helped. :)

Hello

If the main MIX files are not locked there may be a higher possibility the devs' hard work like maps and models will be used by other modders without permission for their own good. I think I heard this 5 years ago.

To allow the original games to continue functioning even with MO3.0 installed, the ini files for Mental Omega do not share the same filenames as those used by the original game. This way you can still play the original games without needing to uninstall MO3.0, just like you can play Red Alert 2 without uninstalling Yuri's Revenge.

We'll share the names of the files when the team is ready to allow fan-based editing. As Zenothist said, stability comes before making MO modifiable. Hope to have your understanding on this.  :)

That was long before we had inidogs running rampant in the server cheating with the ini files online.
