Back before the mod moved onto ARES I used to enjoy making cool maps in FA2 and then staging huge skirmish wars in them, often playing for days and days on the same war.
Sadly since the mod moved to ARES and saving while in skirmish mode became unavailable I, well, stopped playing.
Is it likely that this feature will return at any point?
If not, can you point me to the last version that used Rockpatch? (I think it was Rockpatch, was a long time ago now...)

Ahh thanks for the link, interesting read. So If I'm getting it right the remaining guy developing ares imagines he can make sale/loads work but won't do it (yet), because then modders support will stop for ares.
*sigh*
Well at least there is a ray of hope for the future because I'm not interested in setting up a virtual machine. :S

The virtual machine is to make snapshots of a gameplay ? 
C&C:Reloaded -> 5 different armies: GDI, Nod, Allies, Soviets & Yuri... & converted TS Terrain!!
