For whatever reason, after 20 second of any game, I instantly quit out and forfeit the game.

Haven't played in awhile and just set this up on a new rig. Copied over the Options.ini and the Gamespy login file, maybe it's that?

This is the result of the copy protection system going off.

If you have a legitimate copy of the game, uninstall it, remove all residual files manually, and install it again (preferrably to a different folder).

If you don't... get one.

So I do have a legitimate copy. Upon first install of ZH and Gentool, I can go online, open a self-game, and it stays for longer than 30 just fine.

However after I close and the Gentool 74 updater runs in the background and I re-enter, this issue occurs. Buildings explode after 34 seconds.

I'm totally out of ideas.

The answer to that may be in the Gentool FAQ.

Q. Why do my buildings explode 30 seconds after match start?
A. Your game key was not correctly copied into your Windows Registry. Uninstall the game and run the installer as Administrator and in Windows XP compatibility to the point where you enter your serial key. Enter the key and click Next once. Open Windows Registry (WINKEY+R, regedit) and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour\ergc. Modify the string value containing your serial key by adding the minus between the number sections. Finish the installation.

i.e. put dashes between the groups.

You can certainly try that for good measure, but that's not really why it happens. I have my serial keys without the dashes for Generals, Zero Hour, Red Alert 2, and Yuri's Revenge (all C&C games that have this issue), and I didn't get autodefeat.
