Um, I'm not even sure if this is in the right section, so I apologize in advance. But as the title says, can anyone help a noob here, please?

I've actually been an avid fan of RTS games. I enjoy them, really, I've played a few like the Warcraft series and Starcraft, and now here's Command and Conquer. However, even though I enjoy them, it doesn't really mean I win a lot, IN FACT I lose a lot more than I win.

Like, I don't even recall any moment that I actually won, but anyway... I'm pretty into this game lately, my friend carry me around, while I act as bait, because that's as far as I am useful. But seriously, I've tried playing alone at least a hundred times now against Easy AI. I lost all of it. Within 5~10 minutes of the game.

My friend would tell me, "You should be able to beat Easy AI, they're kinda dumb and they take forever to progress."

To be honest, I don't know what part of take forever she meant because I haven't even built a war factory and they already sent me at least 10 of theirs.

I could use some simple tips, really... It would be better if my friend would actually help me but all she mostly does is mock me of my incompetence. So anyway, should I play on a certain speed for starters? Should I use a certain Side for starters (I usually go random)? Is there a sequence of structure to build I should follow?

Thank you very much in advance, I deeply apologize for the intolerable stupidity I might have potentially shown.

Hello,

We all start as noobies don't we? :-)

Although I'm a bit surprised you played 100 games against Easy AI and still manage to not win a single one.

If you would like, you may add me on steam (DarkXc) or Origin (Vsemkap), and let me observe your game-style. I'm by no means a pro, but can give you some hints on what to build first early game, the importance of scouting, and explain a stuff about the factions you should know when engaging a serious game.

Some general tips:

 - Are you using hotkeys instead of the mouse as much as possible?

 - Use control groups;

 - Do you sell base defenses to get infantry instead of building them early game?

 - Do you micro your army as much as possible?

 - How many harvesters and refineries do you build on 1 tiberium field? (2 refs - 5 harvesters is usually sufficient).

 - Sell unneeded buildings to get stronger economy, avoid having low income.

Hope this helps a bit for now.

Greetings.

Dark has some good advice for RTS games in general, but it would be helpful if you told us what game you were actually talking about, Furan.

I was assuming he was talking about Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath. My bad, it also could be and other CnC game.

We host about a billion CNC games, so just posting about one of them in open chat isn't helpful on deducting which one it is.

On most other forums this would be thread necro. Here tho...

Build order + micro. Same of all RTS - get the build order right and you win.

For 'true' CnC, a build order that beats easy AI goes something like:

CY - power, refinery, barracks, refinery (sell immediately once the miner has spawned)., refinery (sell immediately once the miner has spawned), power, war fact, radar, power, lab, war fact, war fact... if the map has naval options that comes after radar.

As for units, spam basic infantry and antitank infantry (rifle/conscript/GI and rocket/tesla trooper/GGI or maybe rocketeer) and basic tanks until your economy permits better. Once you can afford the best tanks in the game just spam those and don't bother with anything else. Garrison them if the game and map permit. Don't bother with static defences at all. Waste of money and power.

Select maybe 2 or 3 units at a time to attack each enemy unit that comes - preferably making good use of the rock paper scissors mechanics (e.g., for RA2/YR, flak beats infantry beats antitank inf beats tank fights tank). When your tanks are spamming send them en-masse to the enemy base and squash the CY or at least the war fact to stop them coming at you.

This won't work for multiplayer (does anyone play C&C multi these days?) or mods, but it will squash most AIs short of brutal.

As for the later pretend C&Cs (generals and onward)...God knows. I can't even bring myself to ever play em. :p
