No, you're not doing it right. 
I have no record of that name.
You should be able to go into a game and make the name as a new name (by logging in with it in the Online ID box). It will then be available to you in all supported games. You do not need to claim new nick names in this forum (see the Forum Rules, above). I will close this topic now.
