After having watched the first 3 episodes of 4 released so far, I actually don't have much to say off the top of my head. As David Lynch is one of my favourite directors, I am definitely interested in who's watch it here as either a total newcomer or primarily a Twin Peaks fan. I think it will be controversial to basically anyone but the most avid Lynch fans as it absolutely gives no affordance to anyone. Looks like its set to be an 18 hour art project, which is what long-form media should really be IMO. Just like the original two series subverted family dramas and soaps, this is subverting modern TV dramas and thrillers, including the original seasons. It's David Lynch doing what he does, and perhaps the strangest, least commercial thing to have ever appeared on the medium.

Anyone posting spoiler stuff should use the spoiler tags.

Mathijs and I actually thought about starting the series.  When I'm done with Star Trek Enterprise, I'll likely start going through Twin Peaks.

I just finished the original two seasons of Twin Peaks.  The first season was fantastic, but the second sort of dragged on toward the later half.  But... the final episode of season two was genuinely unsettling.  I really enjoyed it.

Also... in that final episode, they brought back Laura Palmer and she told agent Cooper "See you in 25 years."  Umm... that aired in 1992.  Season 3 started 25 years after that - almost exactly.  That's incredible detail, needless to say.  I'll start watching season 3 very soon.

Yeah I agree totally, second half of series 2 (after Leland dies) is just a bit of a bore. Really never liked Windom Earle at all. But those last 2 episodes are insanely good. The "I'll see you in 25 years" was definitely their ticket back in, though series 3 is really a whole new story and experience thus far. Maybe the most Lynch you'll ever see.

Yea, just finished the first episode.  Wow... it's turned into sheer horror.  I absolutely love the old-fashioned cinematography with the new quality.  Some of the shocker moments were just so good.  And the bit where they recreated Laura Palmer whispering into Cooper's ear?  Chilling.  Utter nonsense as well.  The Evolution of the Arm is about as Lynch as it gets.  We need to start the Twin Peaks book club since there is too much of this crap that I need to discuss.

Wait, did you watch the movie Fire Walk With Me? I definitely would, it's a bit of a masterpiece (at least after the first 30 minutes which are somewhat detached from the rest of the film). I think it would help somewhat with the new series, and is closer in terms of horror tone.

You have no idea what you're gonna see this series either. No matter how far in you are it cannot be predicted.

Oh, there's a movie.  Of course there is.  I'll look for it.  And I've predicted everything so far, so... yea.  The part where the hobo in the prison cell turned into a floating head?  Phh.... saw that coming a mile away.

I'm all caught up now.  Really enjoying the season, but there are some moments when I'm just looking at the time and waiting for Lynch to get a move on.  Like all of these hours of footage with Cooper bumbling his way through life without his memories?  Fun at first, but I sort of want that resolved already.  All of his interactions with the Black Lodge were so good, but now, watching him stumble about just seems like a waste of air time.  And stuff like watching a guy brush a floor for 5 minutes and Candy being disinterested in doing her job...  I can only put so much stock into Lynch's nonsense.

Everything else is great.  I'm really enjoying Horne's grandson since he is literally the worst human being in existence.  But really, I just want more jittery, weird Black Lodge stuff.  The monster from the box really set my standards high for the concepts this season.

It's definitely loads of tease. I think after all the 18 hours is out it'll just be a great big movie, that's apparently how they wrote it and shot it, where really 2-3 hours out of 18 of Dougie's bumbling isn't a huge amount. Probably the ending of the series will be Cooper being "released" in some way, whether the good one returns properly to the real world or not.

He's not Dougie!  Well, the moment he wakes up and realizes who he is, all of that build-up should make for a great moment.  Maybe he'll keep loving his fake family and be torn between returning to the FBI or staying with Sonny-Jim and that horrible woman.  Or maybe he'll turn into a salamander and be fed to a strange fat man that exists outside of space and time... I'm up for either as long as it happens soon.  I imagine there aren't too many more episodes left this season.

Great episode last night.  Jim Beliushi and Robert Knepper as the Mitchum brothers is really fantastic.  Those two are golden together.

Yeah loved it too, just a lot of great scenes, like the last episode but somehow feeling a bit more complete. Every one they just went to complete absurdity. Truman asking Hawk what the black icon with ears means and getting told "you dont ever wanna know" was such great trolling. For the future then it seems like Dougie has his back covered by the Mitchums, while his colleague that was tasked with killing him will presumably have to do it himself now, as he was told to by the Vegas business guy who has some ties with evil Coop. I guess possibly the next episode will have Hawk, Truman and Bobby going to the special place - maybe where evil Coop is going? IIRC Albert said the coordinates on the womans arm "pointed to a small town in the north west" before getting cut off, so presumably they'll be going too.

Though if it's such a big event I somehow doubt we'll get it next time.

Cooper's doppelganger is absolutely going to that place on the map and will likely interrupt the Twin Peaks police soon.  In the first episode, he showed his henchwoman that black ace card with the same symbol on the map and revealed he was looking for it.  It surely has something to do with that thing that escaped the box since I suspect evil Cooper was funding the whole thing.  That thing also birthed Bob, if that weird atom bomb episode had any coherency, so I imagine the whole thing is a "meet your creator" sort of deal.

Ok... well, nothing happened in last night's episode at all.  There are only 4 more episodes left and they're not planning another season after this.  Lynch better get a move-on with wrapping up this nonsense.  I like all the flavor stories going on, but I like the main plot more.  Though, the bits with Sarah Palmer were good.  Looks like she might need a golden shovel soon with the crap she's going through.

Yeah, weakest episode by a long shot IMO. Lots of talking about people we don't even know and will probably never see and literally no story progression at all, nor any particularly interesting scenes. The Audrey thing felt like an student acting class for some reason. The last few episodes were utterly brilliant. Maybe this one is a series 2 reference. Unfortunately then I guess the showdown in Twin Peaks might be the last thing to happen afterall. :(

Lynch was only given one new season, so all of these plots are supposed to conclude in 4 episodes.  Audrey Horn and her weird big-head husband just now being introduced is so bizarre.  And yea, that scene was incredibly amateur.  It was just back and forth between those two about being too busy and finding Billy (whoever the heck that is) for like 10 minutes, then we watched the guy talk on a phone for 5 minutes and he didn't even tell the audience what was said, so... is that good writing that I don't understand the chemistry here? It was just a flat-out waste of time.

This week's episode was good, but then again, it's connecting plot points that should have been connected 10 episodes ago.  The FBI agents are just now getting closer to the real Cooper, the Twin Peaks cops are just now investigating the Black Lodge, and it's just now revealing that Bob has influence over Sarah Palmer.  And then the guy with the glove... we do not need yet another plot-line opened up, thanks Lynch.  We only have two episodes left before the entire series is concluded and they have so many plot points that have just done nothing so far.  Are they going to be finished?  Will Audrey's husband ever put his coat on?   Will that guy who lost at arm wrestling with evil Cooper be alright?  So many weird writing decisions...

We have 4 episodes left. There's 18 in total. But yeah it was a cool episode. I don't know that the face opening means Bob is in control of her though, I don't think so. Laura Palmer did open her face the same way in like the first episode I think. Sarah's scene kinda stole the episode again for me though, she's very cool. Lynch's retelling of his dream was weirdly engaging as he just repeated what we were watching on screen. Now we have the eyeless girl from the bell tower near the beginning in the real world and it looks like all that's standing between the apocalypse and humanity is Andy. I sort of agree that it feels like this is the middle of the series though, or that there is going to be another one, but I suspect they're going to leave it on something of a cliffhanger or teasing ending just like series 2. I'm sure we'll have the Bob/Dougie showdown of sorts and there will be a resolution, but nothing too finalizing. That really did sustain the show for the last 25 years and maintain the mystique and I doubt they want to lose that.

I'm fine with a 25 year cliffhanger, as long as appropriate conclusions are made to minor story elements that are introduced.  Though, it sounds like they were only given this one final season, and even though Lynch and Front may be given more depending upon the season's success, there should be some pretty concluding moments within the remaining 4 hours.  I have yet to see the significance of Tim Roth.  He was on the Twin Peaks ComicCon panel, acting like he had a significant role in the show when he has barely been in it for 3 minutes so far.  I'm mostly interested in seeing more of Sarah and what in God's green earth is happening to her.
