My guess for "kill the messenger"

The mission starts of with foehn scavenging a destroyed city, and find young Fin sand Alize. Epsilon forces nearby find out and attack as well as try to report this to yuri/epsilon HQ/someone in epsilon command.

Hmm, it seems a bit early for that event to be Foehn's second origin mission. The siblings' flavor text tells about them not being corrupted yet by Yuri's mind control, so they're found probably well after the battle of Antarctica.

Mostly in it for the lore. Although, I do enjoy basebuilding as well.

Yuri probably didn't want to take risk of Chinese knowing his... takeover of the operation in Think Different

Or he simply didn't have enough time to

About Death's Hand; the victory message of The Conqueror:

"The bizarre Russian show has ended. The world will now see they hold no more MIDAS warheads, while we have acquired some valuable technology in form of these upgraded Topol-M platforms. The construction of Death's Hand will soon begin."

It's Yuri's weapon.

I've kinda believed that "Death's Hand", if indeed a take on the Russian "Perimetr" ABM system IRL, would be the failsafe-of-failsafe's for The Mental Omega Device. The realization, or rather inspiration, came from "Paranoia" where I'd think Yuri had learnt that 2 stationary nuke silos can never be enough failsafe for a Psychic Amplifier.

My take on the Death's Hand device - a series of road-mobile ICBM launchers (Topol-Ms) which are cloaked in thoroughly-hardened locations across Antarctica, where the (insert frivolous fail-deadly condition) would trigger an immediate launch of the remaining Topol-Ms. Since Yuri has at least 8 of these Topol-M launchers to play around with, its hard to see how he cant take "Paranoia" up to eleven and create a fail-deadly ICBM net which is able to protect The Mental Omega device. If the Devs or even Yuri himself took a leaf out of Scud-hunting in Op Desert Storm, a Topol-M hunt by the Allies or Soviets going horribly wrong could be / set the stage for either of their finale missions.

After reading this forum for ages, I guess its time for me to chip in a little  :smile2ap:

Nobody Home

Location - Kashmir
Plot - Yunru knows that Epsilon forces are after experimental Chinese weaponry while she gets blindsided by Latin forces arriving in the same theatre. She draws the Epsilon and Latin forces into a deathtrap with her experimental technologies as bait (remember the Centurion that went missing, the Iron Dragons and most importantly, The Mainframe). She ensures "nobody (remains in her) home" by triggering a MIDAS explosion (or not?)  which supposedly cleanses the region of all traces of Epsilon and Soviet firepower.

Kill The Messenger (take 1)

Location - Kashmir

Plot - Yunru "miscalculates" the MIDAS explosion from the previous mission as there are survivors from the Latin / Epsilon forces that made sense of their reconnaissance observations and correctly deduce the presence of a separate, highly-advanced military force which shares little semblence to the known Allied/Soviet arsenal. With these survivors raring for blood and ready to transmit their findings to HQ, The Centurion Walker gets sent into its baptism of fire.

Kill The Messenger (take 2)

Location - Hokkaido, Japan

Plot - As pro-Allied PF forces investigate the extent of collusion between Chinese and PF forces, a remote PF garrison managing a KI research complex stumbles upon incriminating evidence (which points to extensive sharing and transfer of technologies between KI and Chinese forces) and prepare to transmit their findings to Allied HQ. Yunru, fearing that the existence of the Foehn Militia may be uncovered and hence threatened, deploys her experimental forces to take out the PF garrison and bury all who uncover any involvement between KI and Chinese forces.

Vision...

Location - Anchorage, Alaska

Plot - The activation of The Mental Omega device does not go as planned due to Allied and Soviet attacks hampering the device's effectiveness (as per the San Fran Dominator at the start of Yuri's Revenge), resulting in the creation of "mindless Yuri drones" (instead of total mind control) around the world that attack and maim anything "not of Yuri". Foehn Militia bases, which are surprisingly spared from the Mental Omega Device's deployment, defend against onslaught after onslaught of mind-bleached Allied/Soviet/Epsilon forces. With The Mental Omega War come to a close, the purpose of the Foehn Militia (now Revolt) become clear - to stand up against the psychic machinations of Yuri and liberate mankind.

**the mission could probably revolve around defending a major Foehn base against waves of allied/soviet/epsilon forces which are disoriented by The Mental Omega Device.

If I had to speculate, the campaign would basically be Foehn (or proto-Foehn group(s)) doing what Yuri did in Act 1, building up while the other factions are distracted and manipulating from the shadows with covert teams while the army is still in the works.

My current guess too is that Foehn has its origins in some cross-factional shadow cabal of sorts of the greatest scientific minds, possibly being as old or older than Epsilon, and Yunru is in on it, using the Chinese to develop their arsenal the same way Yuri did with the Russians.

remember that rashidi is in on it as well, so the idea of a cross-faction conspiricy isn't too outlandish

It's interesting to note that in one of the MO trailers, everytime you see Foehn fighting someone it's either Epsilon or purple Soviets.

True that, and it really raises the question - are we even going to get Allied and Soviet missions after Act II? Will they even be players on a world scale anymore?

And if we do (which I hope for cause more missions is always good :D) are they going to fight Foehn?

Foehn's backstory doesn't really suggest anyone else is still free in the world. I don't think we'll be seeing both of these factions after the Origins missions, or only as mind controled drones or old equipment used for whatever reason the missions provide.

A fair point. A disturbing development this is, radical departure from the canon story.

But hey, looking forward to those Foehn missions. Will we still get Epsilon missions?

Hm, and hey, doesn't this make things easier on the mission designers, having less factions to make missions for?

I've become increasingly convinced that everything we've seen thus far is the prelude to a larger conflict that would be kind of like a decades-spanning post-apocalyptic war between the world ruled by Epsilon and the Foehn resistance. Reminds me of the Terminator universe, only instead of machines nuking the world, Yuri mind controls everyone, excluding Foehn which most likely would have discovered some means of deflecting long range mind control.

It's like the devs are chuckling and thinking "Oh, how cute, the believed us when we said it was only a retelling of Red Alert 2!" :p

It IS a retelling of Red Alert 2.

Or are you still expecting Red Alert 3 after da Red Alert 2 arc is done? :p

Right, so far it's been a retelling, but if it becomes what Meyerm suggests, it'll be a radical departure rather than a retelling.

The founder of Foehn is Tony Stark.

hehe.

Anyway, I think it kind of makes sense that the founder of Foehn is someone who knew about Yuri's plans and defected from the Epsilon.
