This is old news, but I doubt anyone here knows about it.

 

According to this article, Halo Wars 2, an RTS for Xbox one and the PC, went gold earlier this year:

On a later article, posted in april 2017, the sales numbers for Xbox one are 149K units:

So my thoughts are, it doesn't sound like alot. I kinda thought going gold meant hitting something around the million mark. Can we expect this to signal the game companies about creating more RTS games, or does the Xbox community and the Halo brand factor in here?

Going gold has nothing to do with sales (you might be confused with being awarded a gold disc in music, which is a mark of sales numbers). "Gold" is the term given to the release build of game that is sent for distribution, which is actually described in that original article (which is 6 months old).
