Hey all!

So I've been wondering lately about Epsilon HQ. How does it work? What is it good at? What does the early/mid/late game look like?

The Faction page speaks of "Infantry-based tactics", "territory control", and "stealth ambushes." How does this actually play out? It looks like the faction is highly reliant on teching up, so is it weak in the early game?

Could it be called spammy because of the cheap-ish Opus Tank and Brute spam? But then there's the expensive and micro-managed Shadow Tank and Colossus.

Basically I'd like to answer this question: Why is it that HQ has a reputation for being an expert faction?

This is all coming from a Latin Confederation main, so yeah. Very different faction, I think.

Thanks!

HQ is a faction of techrushing to Rahn+Irkalla and defeating your opponents with a swarm of Brutes you made from their infantry, while Irkalla killed everything else. :p

I actually think that HQ has a very bad reputation among some people because of that.
It's also the most straightforward (excluding the techrushing :p ) Epsilon faction, as it's generally not that much focused on subterfuge and harassment as Psi Corps and Scorpion Cell are. You can do it, but with how good firepower and durability HQ's T3 has, it's not a necessity.

Also their T1 and T2 special units require quite a bit of effort to make effective (who will have time and patience to put an infantry into each of 10 Opus Tanks, or why go overboard on Shadow Tanks that are basically dedicated miner killers that die against everything else), so this enforces this trend more.

I'm not really the best person to to get solid answers from, but for me, a multiplayer n00b, I find HQ very likeable. In early game I barely touch the tanks other than Shadow Tank and Gatlings (and little bit of Stingers just in case) so I usually go Pandora first before radar. Stalker is nice siege unit, and if you're rich and sneaky enough, you can pop them right at the back of the enemy base with Driller. Somewhat good support with Brutes.

Colossus is quite a necessity too if you want to survive tier 3, Shadow Tank is good if you want to ambush enemies in guerilla tactics all day or want to kill infantries (their range is impressive too), but Colossus holds the real firepower if you want to duke out against tanks or air. Just don't fire too close to allies tanks. It has tendency of friendly fire in danger close situations.

Rahn is fun hero to play with especially against infantry spam, and his range means that he usually shoots first (insert Star Wars meme here) when it comes to Hero duel, or he survives long enough to land his shot. Heroes with range like Morales and Siegfried of course beat him in this case so that's no debate but one can argue that he can beat Fin.

Now Irkalla, I'd say that if you have no escort, just keep it in your base. Heavy air assault and mass of units like Archers and GGIs spam beat it quickly. Otherwise it's 3k cash gone to the drain. It's still a good area denial, but you really don't want it alone.

As for support powers, I like Geneburst as harrassment and thinning infantries. Barrier is great, with no cash cost to increase survivability of your infantries. I once used this on my Shadow Ring Dune Rider for assured destruction. As you may already know, it's not effective against Terror Drones

This is all opinion and others can probably say better than me

Thanks a bunch for the tips guys. So it's actually more straightforward than it looks? Interesting.

So it would seem that HQ has a reputation as an "expert faction" because you have to be patient early-game. It really pays off later in the game and at higher-tiers, correct?

I'd agree, Handepsilon, Rahn is a lot of fun and my favorite hero after Morales. Huehuecoyotl is probably my favorite campaign level so far. :p

Also please don't be that guy who plays HQ, does nothing for half the match in a 3v3, rushing Irkalla, then losing because your allies were fighting 2v3.

I found Shadow Tanks extremely useful against US. They can deny Stryker IFV or kill Stormchildren. You should transition to T3 when you have it, but there's more to HQ than lol techrush gg.

You can force the enemies into thinking that you are that guy as mentioned above. But in fact, you just roll 15 shadow tanks into their ore mines and trash all of the miners!

HQ can act as both diversion and pushing force, depending on unit comp. Irkalla can contribute to both offense and defense. Look at your allies, if they seem tough enough to handle the defense, start pumping shadow tanks and just roam around the map killing anything that you can easily outnumber, destroy and disappear in matters of seconds.
