Hi,

I have Red Alert 3 (through Steam, on Win10) and can't get the game to launch with the C&C online launcher despite hooking.

Error Log is:

----- C&C:Online Launcher Start -----
Game: Red Alert 3
Red Alert 3 Install Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer Red Alert 3\
Started game with: ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Command and Conquer Red Alert 3\RA3.exe" "
Caught CREATE_PROCESS_DEBUG_EVENT from Red Alert 3. Detaching...
ERROR: game.dat process not found.

Any help appreciated!

The way I fixed this was this:

Step 1) Uninstall C&C Online

Step 2) Check to see if RA3 is running in your task manager (check the processes tab). If it is, end the process.

Step 3) Check to see RA3 runs on its own. If not, check step 2 again.

Step 4) Reinstall C&C Online

Step 5) Hook the game, DO NOT RUN RA3 YET!

Step 6) Close C&C Online and run RA3 via Steam, C&C Online should pop up instead.

Step 7) Run RA3

Hope this helped!

Thanks for your help, no luck so far though: I've reinstalled RA3 and can run it. Followed steps 4+5, ok. Close C&C online, check. Executing RA3 from steam, nothing happens.

Have you tried making a desk-top shortcut and running from that?

I have tried to launch RA3 via the desktop icon as well, no success. Nothing happens, log remains empty.

Let's give this one more go then we can try something else.

In this order: Unhook the launcher (if hooked), delete any  desktop shortcuts you made, make a new desktop short-cut, set the properties of that to "Run as administrator" then hook RA3 from the launcher.

Try to launch like that and tell me how you get on.

Unhooked launcher, deleted desktop shortcut, made new shoprtcut via steam. RA 3 starts.

Can't set "Run as administrator" though, since it is s steam link icon - maybe that's the issue?

Hook, close C&C online. Click shortcut doesn't run.

I'll be on holidays for a week, when I'm back I'll try to create a shortcut to RA3.exe and see if I can get it running that way. Open for any other ideas ofc!

You right click the shortcut (or ctrl rightclick, depending) to get the "Run as Administrator" option.      Let me know why you're back.
