I'm getting close to being through with the first half of MO, but this has gotten really tiresome. The vast majority of the time, whenever I go to save or load a game, it takes 10-15 seconds or more. Given how I've been playing mental the entire time, this really adds up. It's been so long since I played RA2 I kind of assumed this was nothing abnormal, or was alteast related to how long it took for Ares to get implemented, but on occasion, it's taken absolutely no time for the save and load screens to load. Actually saving or loading a game doesn't take long- just the act of getting to the save and load options takes an inordinate amount of time that really, really adds up.

Is this just how the mod is right now or is this a bug?

if you are on windows 8 or 10 try changing the renderer to Compact-DDRAW.

The closest I see is "DDrawCompat", and that's what I've  had it set as.

Anyone have other thoughts? Has anyone else experienced this? I also changed it to that renderer from another because I was experiencing slowdown.

I went and tried every other renderer. They made either no difference or made the game slower, sometimes unusable.

Again- is this a documented technical issue? Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might fix this, or is this just an unresolved issue as of now?

So nothing? Nobody can even tell me how common this issue is? I just have a few missions left for Act One, and I'd really like to know if I can do something about this.

Sorry, but none of us seems to know. I can at least tell that your case seems extremely unique. I assume you have compatibility settings set right?

I didn't expect I was a rarity in this case- jesus. I've wasted far, far too much time reloading and saving then. Putting up with it was kind of mix of not playing RA2 in so long, the issues this mod had with implementing a save/load feature and therefore seeing it as probably an extension of that, and just getting used to it.

I haven't had many out of the ordinary technical issues until this. I've occasionally had a mission crash on me, but nothing else that stands out. What would faulty compatibility settings look like for this mod?

Technically, the mod had no issue with implementing savegames again. That's all Ares.

There's a program called Very Sleepy that can help analyzing issues like this. You would have to switch to windowed mode to be able to switch to it while the game is running, and have it take a profile of the game loading a savegame file. If you are interested, I could give more detailled information.

For now, it would be interesting what OS you have, where your game with MO is installed, and whether that location is on a SSD or not.

I'm running Windows 10 64 bit home premium edition. YR is in the Westwood folder under Program Files, and MO runs from a folder on the desktop. Both are installed on an HDD.

I'm running the same configuration too. That should be fine. I don't know what even gives them.  :xcahik_:

Do you have multiple DVD drives or a virtual DVD drive running?  I'm not sure if that was the cause, but I remember I used to have that exact issue with base RA2 or YR where opening the save or load menu would take forever, back when I had a computer with multiple disc drives.  It's quite possible the issue remains in Mental Omega.

I think it also only happened after I already had a few save files, though I can't remember for sure. Try out base RA2 and YR and make a few saves, then see if the same happens there.

A side note, but may not help. Do NOT put MO folder in Desktop. Dad (who's working in IT) says that if you put anything other than shortcut in your Desktop, it'll slow down the booting and the computer.

By compatibility I mean the settings where you need to put all exe files to run with Windows XP SP3 compatibility

As an update, the save/load times seem to have improved a good deal. They can still be as long as before, but seemingly generally not as long, and more frequently load as fast as they should (I think.)

Still would like to know what else it could be.

Hello Mr. Carpotum,

I actually got used to it. I dont play MO that much, but I feel even RA2 and YR are the same.

I think it might be becuz there are lots of saves I have but I cant be too sure (I have about 100+ saves).

Sorry, but none of us seems to know. I can at least tell that your case seems extremely unique. I assume you have compatibility settings set right?

based on what though? becuz I think totally the opposite (but for no reason LOL xD)

I mean, how much does it take to load normal mission from start?

for me it takes time open the save/load/delete menu but then when the menu is open I dont feel its too slow. but it does take maybe 10 seconds to open this menu

Edit: alright so I pulled small data, testing on Soviet mission 8: Death from Above (GO GO NAVAL XD)

  1. it took me 95 seconds to launch the game and load the mission from the client
  2. once game is launched, it took me the 15 seconds to restart the mission
  3. 13 seconds for one load
  4. 11 seconds for second load (different save file)
  5. 10 seconds for third load (also different file)

so it seems fine to me. I can also compare results to my RA2 load times if you want. (maybe will do after dinner)

As an update, the save/load times seem to have improved a good deal. They can still be as long as before, but seemingly generally not as long, and more frequently load as fast as they should (I think.)

Still would like to know what else it could be.

wait, so it was shorter in previous versions? (I only installed MO 2 weeks ago :S)

No. The previous version has no Save/Load. By update, he meant his condition now compared to his condition before
