Hey;

Very recently I started getting a message when trying to initiate games in Zero Hour; something along the liens of "Establishing Connection with External ISP".  I've never seen this message before, now I get it every time I try to connect.

I've only been able to connect to a single game since then.  I don't think I'm the only one getting this message.

AFAIK nothing has changed on my end; appropriate ports are forwarded, my static IP address hasn't changed.

Everything was working fine, and afaik nothing changed on my end.  Did something change server side?

Result from the Connection Tool:

Using server nntest.cnc-online.net:30000
Bound to local port 56814
Bound to local alternate port 56815

Received 3 pings from nntest.cnc-online.net:40000.
NAT negotiation works with your router and connection.
==> You do not have to use port forwarding.
Press any key to continue . . .

[edit]

I'm not the only person reporting this issue;  Other veterans have also spontaneosly lost the ability to connect starting about 2 days ago.

[edit 2]

SUCCESS

See Post 12 and 14 for the solution.  The underlying issue remains elusive, but hopefully this fix is permanent.

What version of Windows do you have?

If you have Windows 10, could you open Windows PowerShell (type PowerShell at the start menu) and in the window type and enter
Test-NetConnection peerchat.server.cnc-online.net -port 6667
Then post the output in here.

I think I misunderstood. You can get into the game lobby but you cannot connect to other players? I had thought you could not go online at all. The connection between players is not controlled by us. All our server does is tell the players in the game the IP address of the other players. I think it may be a coincidence that other people are having problems.      Maybe your provider changed something.

I will continue to look at this.

My suspicion is a Windows Update, but using System Restore to go back to 9/11 didn’t solve the issue.

Na, I don't think it's Windows 10 related.

I am using the latest version and updates of Windows 10 Pro 1803 x64, no issues here on the first decade version.

Not entirely sure if the provider may have pushed a certain change through without letting you know about it?

Have you guys also tried to reset the router by unplugging the power cord for a few second and plug it back in to see if there's any change.

Same Problem here, nothing changed and now I get the "Establishing Connection with External ISP" too.

- Windows 7-64 (sp2)
- static IP in LAN to rooter, (192.168.178.20 IPv4)
- Ports are fowarded in NAT for this ip (TCP: 80; 6667; 28910; 29900; 29920 UDP: 4321; 27900)
- windows Firewall is off,

I can log in to generals ZH, see people in Lobby, but if I create or join a game, I get this Connection-Message. I am sure that there wasn't "Establishing Connection with External ISP "-message in past while connecting, it was only "Establishing Connection with ISP".
Why is my ISP now listed as "external"  while connecting. And how can it be fixed?

(I also tried another rooter, but same issue...)

I got the problem solved for me. In generals options i added port 16000 to the firewall override, clearing the port solved the problem for me. I also removed the ports that "cnc needs" from my router, works fine without them i guess.

Hopefully this can help you.

@daantje050: this was very helpfully , big thx. I was able to solve the problem too.

But I did a different ways and tries and found out, that the ".. -external provider" connection message whil connection appears if I didn't have the local ip used in options for lan & online.

In options.ini these are the important lines:

...
FirewallBehavior = 0
FirewallNeedToRefresh = FALSE
FirewallPortAllocationDelta = 0
FirewallPortOverride = 0
GameSpyIPAddress = 192.168.178.20 (!!! must be the address of your network-adapter connected to the rooter !!!)
...
IPAddress = 192.168.178.20 (!!!same here !!!)
...

sometimes it takes the online ip of the provider after saving in options or refreshing NAT.

I tried the port 16000 override too, but it makes no different.
But I also delete forwarded ports from cnc and don't use them a.t.m. (TCP: 80; 6667; 28910; 29900; 29920.
UDP: 4321; 27900.) and it works fine

testet 1v1, 1v1v1v1v1v1 and 2v2v2 ... so ... maybe the old ports are not needed anyway,,,

I didnt have any port forwarded at my rooter NOW !

EDIT:

I made several games and the message appears again:

now i switched back to online ip with this in config

...

FirewallBehavior = 0
FirewallNeedToRefresh = FALSE
FirewallPortAllocationDelta = 0
FirewallPortOverride = 0
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
...
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0

it works again, but now i am very confused ... but i will reply if i got a final state.

I'm happy to report this worked for me too.

I hope it continues to work.  I would recommend sticking this, as I think this solves this mysterious issue.
