So me and Fuyu have just been discussing this on the Discord server: What exactly happened to the Amplifier in Chicago after the events of Firewalking & Mind Over Matter?

 

We know the Soviet General had to retreat out of the SSA and go find allies to assist him. We also know that the Allies took the Psychic Beacon in Boston (Monochrome) so I get that had to be dealt with first.

 

But what happened to the Amplifier itself after all this? Was it taken back? Was it destroyed by Epsilon to deny the Soviets an advantage? We don't know because it never gets mentioned in the Soviet campaign again after these missions!

 

It'd be nice if a Covert Op/Co-op mission showed Epsilon taking back Chicago in order to solve that plot point...

I think Soviets still hold it, that's where they are getting all that manpower to be able to invade multiple countries around the world.

Isn't there a range to it though? Like forces under it's control (or protection for already loyal Russian forces) can't stray beyond its range of influence.

I think it's more of a protection purpose really, so that they have a good base of operation after Moscow went in flames and taken by Yuri

Another reason could simply be to weaken Yuri. Anyone's who not mind controlled is an enemy to Yuri, so every psychic amplifier destroyed or seized is dramatically weakening Epsilon forces.
