Hi All,

I've had this error several times now, see attachment.

Direct3D error 0x0x8007000e (E_OUTOFMEMORY):

7 addresses:

(unknown)(0): game.dat+241550

(unknown)(0): game.dat+1176743

(unknown)(0): game.dat+1252306

(unknown)(0): game.dat+979598

(unknown)(0): game.dat+715245

(unknown)(0): game.dat+1124023

(unknown)(0): game.dat+922153

Because of the severity of this error the game will now exit.

I was playing with 2 other family members over our local network (not online). 2 of us were using the BFME2 HD edition and the other was just using the standard version, we were all on patch 1.09 and playing on the map Lanthir Lamath, (this issue may have occurred on other maps as well but I can't remember), against 4 other brutals. We also tried everyone playing on the standard version (the online instructions say this shouldn't affect gameplay with other people but we wanted to try just in case), however, the game crashed again with the same error.

I have my in game settings set to the max and am using a i5-7500 CPU with 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD and GTX-1060 6GB graphics card. All my drivers are up to date, windows is up to date. I was running MSI Afterburner and it showed my GPU VRAM peak at roughly 850MB and my physical RAM at roughly 4200MB, my GPU maxed out at 32% usage.

I am really not sure why this is happening, given my specs, and I have never had this issue in the past. I first noticed this when I re-installed windows a couple of months ago after purchasing a new SSD.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply. It may sound far-fetched, but maybe your RAM is too "modern" to play BFME? Never experienced or heard that before myself, but 4200MB is quite a number, and the message E_OUTOFMEMORY next to it kind of hints that it is related to the RAM.. I assume it is just you who experiences the crash? Try regulating your RAM down in the BIOS, and see if that was the issue... I don't know if it will fix anything, but I would start there. It shouldn't be related to DirectX because other people would have the same issue..

Unfortunately, BFME is an old game and as great as the new tech is, it is not always good for old games like BFME. :(

Thanks for the reply Echo. As far-fetched as it sounds I think you are right, I did a bit of research around and there seems to be a general idea that older games don't always work on higher spec modern components and I think in the case of BFME it seems to be the game engine itself that is causing problems as it is poorly written...

I haven't tried your ideas yet though but will let you know the results when I do. I did try and set a core affinity so it only used the first core of my CPU, this seemed to work but the game was very laggy (playing offline) so I stopped that. Another couple of potential fixes are to lower the graphics settings and to restart the game after every match. My main issue with all of these ideas is that I never had a problem until the last couple of months, so I wonder is it something to do with a windows update?

Also my wife experienced the same crash as me and again she has never had any problems. Anyway I will keep exploring and report back with more findings.

For future users who may have this issue, I went into options and turned down the graphics settings a little and I also no longer play on the 'HD' version (which is slightly annoying) but I have not had a re-occurance of this issue since.
