Dear forum-elders,
I'd like to gain some wisdom from you, though I have trouble even starting the game with the Age of the Ring-mod at all.
First some further informations:
System: Win 10
I played ROTWK already with Edain but I deinstalled it and reinstalled the main game from scratch. After I tried to run it - and nothing happened, I remembered, that there was a fixer for modern systems from the modding union. After I activated it, both games (SUM 2 and ROTWK started, but in low resolution) worked.
Then I tried to follow this particular order, which I found everywhere:
- Patch BFME2 to 1.06.
- Patch ROTWK to 2.01.
- Test to make sure ROTWK runs.
- Install patch 2.02 - make sure to download the full version. AotR 4.1 does NOT yet support 2.02 v8.2.0. To play Age of the Ring, either don't update to the latest 2.02 version or use the 2.02 launcher to set your Rise of the Witch-king to v8.1.0.
- Open the patch 2.02 launcher (found in RotWK's installation folder) and make sure it's enabled. Disable the timer and the 2.02 music options.
- Download the Installer
- Unzip the contents of AotR_4.1.zip
- Run Installer.exe
- The installer creates a shortcut to AotR 4.1 on your desktop
There is still a launcher.exe present in AotR 4.1's installation folder. You can use this to uninstall Age of the Ring, get help for Gameranger using Options > Gameranger, as well as launch the mod. There is no update available, so pressing Update does nothing.
1) First little problem with step 4:
I followed the link, clicked on the first installment and it installed the version 2.02 v8.0.0 . There is nowhere a version with v8.1.0.
Any ideas here? I am not an expert in coding and modding - so, I'd love to have an answer considering me being a clueless admirer of your work.
Since then, I can also open the launcher and disable the timer, but it only says, that I can choose the 2.02 music - I can't disable it.
2) Next problem comes with the unzipping:
I unzipped it just where it was downloaded. It started and all but I was unsure if the path was correctly - doesn't it has to fit into the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Aufstieg des Hexenkönigs"
(ah yeah, I'm German btw) folder?
3) The third turd:
I ran the installer and my Anti-Virus-Program was giving me a warning and put 15 files at least into quarantine.
So the game didn't start at all and gave me an error warning.
After I restored those files, I could click on the (now completely white) icon of the Age of the Ring and it started... but it was the old and original version of the ROTWK from 2006. Absolutely nothing has changed.
Now I'm looking onto my desktop where the folder called "RESTORED" is located. In this I find the 15 files (alongside with BIG-files and a launcher which doesn't work) but I have no clue where to copy them.
Ufff, I hope some of which I wrote makes any sense!
You would do me a big favour if somebody could take on my noob-case!
With kindest regards,
Accu
