Here’s an idea. Would it be possible to combo horde a hero with a regular unit to give the hero some protection in massive battles? Something like prince imrahil with swan knights as a bodyguard of sorts. Maybe give that battalion a little stat boost from being comanded by a hero?

Possible? Yes, I think so. But you'd lose your hero, and wouldn't be able to get him back.
