Today installed Red Alert 3 (after ~2 years of pause) and noticed, that game seems intermittent (like micro-lags).

After some checking I've understood, that game is limited to ~30 frames per second.


It's sad for me because (for example) moving map is very uncomfortable for me.

I want to solve this bug for the RA3 community.


After ~1 hour of reverse-engineering I've found fps-limiter and disabled it in the game engine.

Now framerate is unlimited and can be any value above 30 fps.


BUT! As it turned out, RA3 engine's server code was limited to 30 "network-frames" per second too.

After my patch game runs much more fast, as was before. In LAN game it works too.

I need some time to find a way to limit fps for server mechanism, but leave FPS unlocked for rendering process.


Can you tell me all you know about this limit? And does RA3 community need this unlock feature from me?

Some new info! I've achieved stable FPS without affect on game mechaincs!


Now I can play with any FPS and without speed up/down scripts and world/unit speeds.

I think, I can make special patch (1.13 lol) with this change to help people have better experience with Red Alert 3 playing over the internet.

So how did you do it? i really want to play it with 60 fps but i don't want it to double the speed

Just wanted to mention that I'm also working on a 60 FPS patch but for every sage game.

The project is called SageMetaTool and it's a huge engine extender framework and already supports 60 FPS for RA3 and other sage games (CNC, BFME).

Although I need to perfectionize it in the next couple of versions.

Still it would be interesting to see how @StoryboardCreativity will execute it so ultimately we could bring the best version to the community.
