X02 Scraped Off Limits (WXB Mengjunlaosi Lin Yu Tain)
This is one of the missions that is very hard in the beginning.
Das Boot map, night of the wolves theme, with Sapper and Lupin. The catch is, Lupin can punch but can’t tie, Sapper can tie, but only Lupin can use gun. There are patrols, lights, and snipers everywhere. The lights can’t be killed and the commandos start with nothing in the boat.
Lupin has to swim under the watch of sniper and use precise good timing to approach the tower. Since Sapper can’t climb the tower or crawl under the wire fence, I leave him in the boat.
The challenge now is to find the way to neutralize the enemy because knocking them only give a very limited time frame. It was super difficult to navigate among enemies and lights and I almost gave up a few times. I didn’t know whether there is a way to neutralize the enemy or to bring Sapper in because I went from building to building and found nothing. Had to repeat the game multiple times because I was caught. I even found the explosives first but for now, I don’t have any use for them.
It’s a good thing that Lupin is very fast and is able to hide in a pile of cables. Finally, in the building next to the one with fence he found a box with wire cutter and ladder. It’s hard to get to it as patrol come in and out and he need to punch a lot of enemy and escape on time.
The next challenge is to make it back to the starting area so that Sapper can access the ladder. Then one by one, he starts to tie the enemy and dump it in the front part of the tower where no one can see it or be prepared to neutralize anyone who come to investigate. Once this area is cleared, including those who heard sound and come, Lupin can climb the wall to kill the sniper on the tower. He has to make sure the patrol is not in close proximity because he has to use gun.
From here, things get easier but it’s still hard to neutralize the patrol with very limited bullet because the common enemies are empty. I can’t take gun out of them. Without killing the patrol it would be impossible to move forward or expand the clear area. Since Lupin is the only one who can use gun, it would be hard to ambush as well and the bullets are not enough.
So, I tried tripping the alarm. It gets more patrol out and a group is stationed near the tower. Fortunately, Sapper can punch one without alerting the rest and take the machine gun. He has to hide behind. He can punch another without tying first because tying will alert the leader in front of him. Since they can steal gun from the patrol, Lupin has machine gun now (Sapper can only punch and tie).
Now that Lupin has the ability to kill, it’s fun from here. He would bait other patrols and stay behind the wire fence to kill them.
Blowing up the anti aircraft gun requires two bombs each and ten mines for each tanks. The amount is ridiculous but at least the mission provide enough number, not more but these are items that can’t be misused accidentally. The track for the tank on the left is very short, so mines have to be put near each other.
Special note: It’s very hard to kill sniper at the upper right. There is almost no way to distract him since Sapper can't make noise with gun. Lupin can’t dive for long. What I did was deploying the mice, and before it reached the sniper I make noise with gun to distract his view to the wall, then I started swimming under his wall. The mice will arrive right in time to continue with the distraction so that Lupin has time to reach. When the sniper’s PoV is back, he can climb up from the blind spot and kill the sniper.
Overall:
I think it’s very interesting that the commandos have limited ability yet compliment each other and the mission rewards it with a lot of fun later (after thief acquire gun and machine gun), however, it’s easy for players to give up since it’s very hard, especially when the commando finds nothing in the beginning.
It would be a pity if players give up because of that. The mission is very fun later but a lot of patience is required in the beginning.
